After being trained in standardized test instruction by Kaplan (the leading test prep company), I have logged over 2,750 hours as a tutor on Wyzant. I also have over a decade of experience teaching at the college level and am currently an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Ave Maria University in Florida.

The students who come to me for help with the SAT, ACT, GRE, or other exams are given the same test preparation techniques that I used myself to score 780 math/770 verbal on the SAT and to earn perfect scores on the GRE math and verbal. I also tutor in Math, Physics, Chemistry, English, Latin, Spanish, and Writing for middle school, high school, and college.

Whether a student needs help with algebra or writing, I always begin by identifying the areas where the student needs to improve (by means of practice tests and conversation with the student) so that we can focus on strengthening these weaknesses right from the start. By assigning and reviewing homework at the student’s own pace, I ensure that he or she makes steady progress without being overwhelmed.

Ultimately, I believe that what most sets me apart as a tutor is the ability to break down difficult concepts into easily understandable terms and to adapt my explanations of these concepts for the specific student I'm working with. These traits are enhanced by my cheerful, friendly, and patient disposition, which helps both me and the student stay positive even when dealing with difficult subjects. Finally, I do not bill for any lesson with which the student or parent is not entirely satisfied, and I often ask for feedback.

My schedule is flexible, so I try to accommodate the student's schedule as much as possible, especially if we meet for tutoring online. For in-person lessons, I prefer to meet in group study rooms at local libraries, but I am open to other locations when more convenient.

I look forward to hearing from you and to working with you!

Understanding and knowledgeable

Dr. Michael was very kind and knowledgeable. He is tutoring my son in Algebra 1 and helping with any gaps he has in the process. My son felt very comfortable with Dr. Michael right away and was able to understand his teachings. My son grasped the information much quicker than he has with previous teachers. I would highly recommend Dr. Michael.

Practical Help on Test Taking Strategies

Dr. Michael taught me reading comprehension techniques and test taking strategies that have already proved helpful on practice quizzes. The biggest help was the reminder to write things down in my own words for the verbal section just as I would for the math. Now I have begun to create passage maps on a regular basis. I already see the benefits.

Dr. Michael is the gold standard.

Dr. Michael is down to earth, he’s great. He’s knowledgeable, acknowledges the stupidity in the system and the strengths. Very good with chaotic households and disorganized students.
