After graduating from Franciscan University, I went on to graduate school to study my two great passions: I completed 34 credit hours in Education at Boston University, and also earned a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame.
I loved using this learning to help students gain greater understanding and proficiency in math, during both my one year as a teaching assistant and four years as a classroom teacher. I also started my own tutoring business, which led to nearly 1,000 hours of individualized tutoring, including some students I tutored continuously from 8th through 11th grade. Recently, however, I teamed up with Wyzant, which allows me to focus less on the business side and more on working with students.
I have always thought outside the box when it comes to math, but I have turned this into a strength for my students, enabling them to “make math their own” and even to question assumptions. I want my students to come to love math just as I have, and to see that it elegantly describes real-life situations and can actually be most interesting when it is most puzzling.
