Chemistry Major & SAT Math Tutor (2yr)

Hello,

My name is Brian and I’m a graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry.

Throughout my academic years I have done minimal tutoring for my peers in mathematics (algebra, calculus) and science courses (chemistry, physics) mainly consisting of answering and explaining questions at regular intervals. My most notable impact resulted from helping out other students in Chemistry and Organic Chemistry while I was simultaneously taking those courses.

I've also have been teaching SAT math for the last 2 years so I can help with that as well.

I personally believe in helping students “understand” what it is they’re learning rather than simply memorize, after all what good is learning if you don’t understand what it is you’re studying. Therefore, my teachings revolve around explanation and laying out examples that the student can complete in order to solidify the knowledge in their brains. I hope to be a big help and welcome any critiques and responses that help me become a better tutor/helper.

As I'm currently job hunting I've decided to return to Wyzant to teach the Subject of Chemistry and Math in the meantime. However, a few things to keep in mind in regards to how this will work:
1.) At the moment I've pretty confident with General Chemistry (90 %) so that's where I'll be the most helpful.
2.) My Organic Chemistry is pretty rusty so if you are looking for help there I'll have to see first if I can deliver. In the meantime I'm reviewing the subject so I can be more efficient in the future.
3.) I work best when explaining the concepts through questions rather than giving lectures myself. Therefore, if you have any worksheets, graded quizzes/tests, lab notebooks, etc. that we can focus on in the session that would be more advantageous for me.
4.) I'm currently working part-time teaching SAT math so I have plenty of experience on that front.
5.) Since I'm working part-time at the moment my schedule isn't that flexible so scheduling may be tricky here and there.
