About Bruce

Bio

After 35 years of teaching, I have retired from that rewarding career. I have had so many wonderful moments during that time. I have directed students in plays and speech and drama competitions. My students have performed for the elderly and at hospitals. I believe in giving back to the community.
Most importantly, I have worked one one one with students and know that I have had a meaningful impact on their learning. Their is nothing as worthwhile as realizing a child "got it"! That "Ah-ha"...

I love to share my knowledge of reading and writing. It's so special to know that you can use and understand words and the English language in a meaningful way. Reading and understanding, writing with purpose and speaking with confidence are all within our grasp.

My Undergraduate degree from University of Pittsburgh was in Speech. I have also taught Public Speaking for many years at a community college. I have coached students in Individual Events and Debate and many of them have competed at local, regional and National levels with great success. From composition to effective delivery and getting over stage fright, I can help in every aspect of Speech essentials.

It wasn't until Graduate school where I learned I could combine my love for theater and reading. I took several Elementary and Middle School reading courses but being a creative thinker, I realized how well those tales transferred to performance. I shared this notion to my Reading professor and ended up co-teaching the course.

I was a Theater Minor at University of Pittsburgh. I received my Masters Degree in Theater Education at Florida State University. Much of my teaching from K-12 has been Theater, I worked for 9 summers at a CampMataponi in Maine as their Theater Director. I have directed shows for my synagogue, old age Homes and children with cancer. I have coached students at every level for Florida State Thespians. One of my students won Critic's Choice at State competition and another won the Florida Shakespeare competition and competed at Lincoln Center in NYC. I have been nominated for several Fine Arts Teachers of the Year for Broward County Schools and was a finalist twice. In 2012. I won Adjunct Professor of the Year at Broward College in south Florida. I have just retired after 35 years teaching theater in 4 different states.

I love writing! I taught it for many years with the public school system. I have written and been published professionally for Fashion and Travel Magazines and I currently am in the process of getting my first children's book published. Hope to hear from you soon. Bruce
