I hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and I am currently entering my seventh year as a classroom mathematics teacher. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught students across a wide range of grade levels and abilities, giving me firsthand experience with how math skills build from elementary foundations through high school coursework. I have also privately tutored for more than ten years, working one-on-one with students in grades K through 12 on everything from basic arithmetic to Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and SAT Math preparation.
My classroom experience gives me a strong understanding of curriculum standards, including Florida's BEST standards and FAST testing expectations, and I regularly help younger students build the foundation they need before math becomes more demanding in middle and high school. Rather than simply reteaching a lesson the same way it was presented in class, I focus on identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down, using guided questioning and worked examples so they build real problem-solving skills instead of memorizing steps. Parents and students have consistently told me that this approach makes math feel less intimidating, with several noting real improvement in both grades and confidence within just a few sessions.
Because I work with such a wide age range, I tailor my approach to each student's developmental level, using more visual, hands-on explanations for younger students and more abstract, exam-focused practice for older ones preparing for the SAT. This combination of full-time classroom teaching and over a decade of private tutoring allows me to support students consistently from early math skills through college entrance exam preparation.
