Hello! My name is Jessica Y., and I am an experienced elementary educator with a passion for helping young learners build confidence and truly understand what they are learning.
I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education and hold both Reading and ESOL endorsements. I am currently in my 11th year of teaching and teach 2nd grade gifted students in a public school setting. Throughout my career, I have taught students in kindergarten through 3rd grade, giving me a strong understanding of early childhood development and foundational academic skills.
My teaching experience includes whole-group classroom instruction, small-group intervention, and one-on-one individualized support, which closely aligns with tutoring. As a gifted teacher, I specialize in enrichment, higher-level thinking, problem solving, and helping students explain their thinking clearly in both math and reading. I am especially passionate about teaching writing and enjoy helping students organize their ideas, expand their sentences, and develop confidence as writers.
When tutoring, I focus on meeting students where they are. I use clear explanations, visual models, guided practice, and positive encouragement to help students feel successful. I believe learning should feel engaging—not stressful—and I work to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks.
I enjoy partnering with families to support academic growth and tailor each session to the individual needs of the student. Whether your child needs extra support, enrichment, or confidence-building, I strive to make learning both effective and enjoyable.
