I earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism & Mass Communication with a minor in Business from Samford University. I completed graduate course work in Advertising & Public Relations at the University of Alabama. I have more than 25 years of experience as a writer, editor and communications project manager serving individuals, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and Fortune 500 corporations. I've helped executives write speeches, letters, video scripts and other important announcements. I've edited annual reports and newsletters. My experience runs the gamut of different types of writing and editing work.
As a parent myself, I was led to share my experience to help students with writing, editing and public speaking. While my own children were in high school, I learned everything I could about the college admissions process, participating in webinars, engaging in dedicated online communities, and listening to podcasts about college admissions and specifically about the type of essays that admissions counselors look for in making admission and scholarship decisions. I believe the insights I gained helped me advise my daughters as they approached their applications, which resulted in successful admission to multiple Top 10 universities and honors colleges in 2025. Additionally, I served as a volunteer judge for NSDA and FFL high school speech & debate competitions for four years. I prided myself on offering meaningful feedback and constructive criticism to the students whose performances I judged.
For tutoring and advising, I meet with students one on one in a virtual setting. Unless you specifically request feedback on something you have already written or prepared, I will suggest a planning session to discuss your ideas and develop potential topics you want to write or speak about, followed by a review session (or two, as needed) once you have developed your essay or speech. I aim to provide timely responses and provide flexible scheduling. Please ask any questions you have.
