My academic training, in addition to my own interest and dedication to learning has prepared me for teaching. My undergraduate work included a concentration on research and writing, which served me well in my own graduate work. As a graduate student I have been a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Florida, Gainesville. I have taught writing courses in Academic Persuasion and Rhetoric where a good portion of the courses involved teaching students how to read analytically and critically. Here I focused on regular individual and group meetings with students paying close attention to every phase of the writing process, from initial annotations to final editing. I have also taught courses on Religion and Environmental Ethics preparing students to translate theoretical questions into daily concerns of sustainability, regardless of their majors.
My research and fieldwork keeps me active in the academic communities both in the U.S. and in India. I am sensitive to students’ needs and committed to guiding students to negotiate their challenges in their own journeys of learning. I help students work on their subjects while encouraging them to think about how they can use learning to move towards their individual goals for their own careers. I am excited about and fully engage with my students during their learning process.
I have been an advanced reader since my elementary school days. Since I read, speak and write four languages which I use in graduate level research, fieldwork and writing, I am equally comfortable engaging with scholars as well as students. I read very deeply and closely, which allows me to help my students immerse themselves in a writing process that allows them to think through ideas and concepts while framing them in an academic and professional manner.
