Hello everyone! I am looking forward to helping as many children as possible with their literacy skills. The majority of students I have tutored have been in elementary school, yet I have also worked with middle school and high school students. I started my first tutoring job in 2019. From 2023 to 2024, I worked as a Reading Tutor online for Varsity Tutors. I have 2 master's degrees, 1 doctoral degree, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher (Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood thru Young Adulthood). My first master's degree from North Carolina Central University, a Master of Arts in Teaching, cum laude, in 2002, is in Special Education/Visual Impairment, as I have worked as an itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired since 2002. My second master's degree from North Carolina State University, a Master of Education in 2012, is in New Literacies/Global Learning-Reading Education (K-12). My Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of South Florida, received in 2024, is in Curriculum & Instruction-Educational Psychology. Educational Psychology is the study of how people learn. My research interest was and still is how the using art forms help children learn better, specifically with their literacy skills. This type of instruction is called arts integration. I think children will be more drawn to learning and gain better social skills if their lessons in school are enjoyable and allow them to be as creative as possible.
When I was a Reading Tutor at Varsity Tutors, I received excellent reviews from the parents of the children I taught. The highest score a tutor could receive for their abilities was 5.0. My score was 4.9, something I am very proud of. I like to use fun websites, such as starfall.com, in my teaching so that my students will pay close attention to what they are learning and enjoy themselves at the same time. I look forward to meeting you and your child, and most of all, I am looking forward to helping the children read and write better!
