About me:
I graduated with honors from Princeton University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (thesis in Biophysics) and several minors, including Finance, Material Science Engineering, and Pre-med. After college, I worked on Wall Street as a quant trader until taking a year off to travel the world.

Qualifications:
I began tutoring high school Physics over 10 years ago. In college, that extended to include Calculus, Diff Eq, Chemistry, and higher-level Physics. For the last few years, I have mostly focused on Calculus-based Physics and Math (anything from Algebra, Geo, up to Multivariable Calculus). In 2021, for a period of time, I was ranked #1 female tutor for Physics on Wyzant. :)

SAT Math: 800/800
SAT Subject Math IIC, Physics, Chem: all 800/800
AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, AP Econ, AP Psych, etc: all 5/5
National Merit Scholar, US Physics Team, International Math Modeling Comp, AIME, etc.

Tutoring:
Whether it's acing those tests, pulling up your grade, or getting help with homework, I would love to help. Tutoring over the years, I've noticed students overuse "trick" test-taking strategies and rely heavily on simple memorization of formulae. In the long run, this does not work. On the contrary, I want to help students build a solid foundation bottom up, propelling them to get those straight A's, AP 5s, or perfect 800s.

What to expect:
My tutoring style involves several phases:
1) Build an overall picture of subject and finding weak spots.
2) Go over theory of above-mentioned topics.
3) Map each problem to a topic and approach. (This is an extremely important step. I've found the issue many students have is they don't know where to start. Understanding categories of questions and mapping type to answer is 90% of the work!)
4) Practice, practice, practice.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Calculus

Qualifications: I graduated with honors from Princeton University majoring in Chemistry and Finance, having taken many advanced math courses, including Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, Advanced Physics: Mechanics and E&M, Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, etc. My own scores were: SAT Math - 800/800 SAT Subject Math IIC, Physics, Chem - all 800/800 AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, AP Econ, AP Psych, etc - all 5/5 National Merit Scholar, US Physics Team, International Math Modeling Comp, AIME, etc. Tutoring Experience: I have 10+ years experience tutoring quantitative subjects, from teaching elementary math to preparing students for the US Physics Olympiad. Tutoring Experience: I have 10+ years experience tutoring quantitative subjects, from teaching elementary math to preparing students for the US Physics Olympiad. Physics

Physics

Academic Qualifications: In high school, I received all 5s on my APs (Calculus BC, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, etc). My SAT Math score as well as SAT Subject Test (Physics, Math II and Chemistry) are all 800/800. I used to take part in math and physics competitions and olympiads, culminating in making it into the US National Physics Team in 2008. At Princeton, I received A's in both beginning and advanced physics classes (Mechanics, E&M, Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Mechanical&Aerospace engineering, etc). Tutoring Experience: I have tutored in the Physics Department at NC School of Science and Mathematics and have also given private lessons at Princeton University preparing students for Olympiads. I have found that many students have problems with physics because they get lost in the details and don't understand the full picture. That is what I'm here to correct: a way of connecting deeper understanding to basic foundation which is sure to bring up test scores, as well as enable the student to have that "lightbulb" moment of understanding the whole puzzle.

Very knowledgeable, resourceful and shows genuine care in helping us meet my son's goals!

We are very impressed with Alesia’s approach, ideas and genuine interest to help my son meet his AP Calculus goals. My son found it easy to relate and trust her. I highly recommend her for students needing to understand the foundational concepts. My Son has been struggling with certain AP Calculus subjects and after completing the 1st semester at school, we decided to pursue a tutor. Alesia quickly proposed an assessment of his understanding of the underlying concepts. She even provided material to do this assessment. A long-term plan is in place to revisit prior course material while also supporting him with homework and boosting his grades moving forward. The goal is to improve grades leading up to the AP Exam and Alesia is leading us to achieve that goal. I like that she will guide him through the steps and probe him to figure things out as he goes. Also, very accessible and follows up with messages after the tutoring sessions to ensure my son is supported during the week. Highly recommend her!

Alesia is brilliant.

Alesia is brilliant. She helped my son with AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Physics CM. Alesia explained various challenging problems on those AP topics. She also accommodated my son's late-night schedules to ensure my son will be ready for his AP tests. We really appreciated it!

AP Physics

Alesia’s teaching methods are clear and concise. She is very knowledgeable about the material and she makes you feel very comfortable when speaking to you. I plan to continue using her and I highly recommend her.

Expected quality of learning!

As is with any given one of these lessons, I was given a deep dive into the fundamental understanding of physics. It's always remarkable what I learn from the material I'm struggling with in such short time.

Helpful!

Alesia helped my son get through physics homework and patiently helped him understand concepts he was missing. She helped him get caught up in a stressful time.

Alesia is a superb tutor!

My teen daughter thinks Alesia is an amazing physics tutor and we've tried several. Alesia is one of the best tutors out there. Highly knowledgeable, kind, responsive, and she has the gift of teaching. We are so thankful we found her!

very helpful and great at explaining things, also a very kind person

Alesia really helped me understand the concepts of what I was working on and was very good at explaining it in ways that were easy to understand.

Highly Recommend

We went over and clarified Universal Gravitation and got a head start on SHM. I feel like I'm very prepared for our next unit on SHM with even this 30 minute lesson.

Patient and understanding tutor!

Alesia is such a great tutor! She makes sure that I understand before we move on to the next section, and she is genuinely patient. Alesia is also very understanding and paces the lesson well! I have already learned so much and we've only had a couple lessons so far!

Great lesson

Really have nothing at all to complain about this lesson. We reviewed things from a very fundamental stance, which really helped me get a more firm understanding of the concepts I was struggling to understand.
