My specialties for 1-on-1 tutoring are low brass, bass guitar, guitar, and voice. My primary instruments are bass trombone and bass; however, based on my experience as a band director, I can teach woodwinds, brass, and percussion. While my primary teaching is middle and high school students, I have tutored adults in guitar and voice.
I believe that a lesson is a learning experience that needs both parties to be responsive. I know methods and practices that can help a student improve, and the student knows what their preferences are, which can keep them engaged with the lesson more productively.
If a student is actively participating in a school’s band or guitar class, I will use the method books and music used in the class to reinforce the teacher’s instructions. I can suggest method books if learning individually or want additional materials to explore.
