Hello! My name is Kalea, and I'm a full-time college student that loves helping students develop a strong foundation and achieve both academic and athletic goals. While pursuing a dual degree in Biochemistry and Art at the University of Florida, I've fostered a love of bridging the gap between science and creative thinking. Through various STEM and laboratory courses at UF, I have a strong understanding of both math and chemistry. Whether the goal is to strengthen elementary science and math comprehension, get a grasp of higher-level chemistry, or learn the fundamentals of basketball, I'd love to help you succeed!
I've taught beginner science topics to an elementary classroom through fun, active experiments with my university's chemistry club, as well as created educational videos for a chemistry non-profit organization. I've worked as a one-on-one chemistry and math tutor for my peers, providing lessons specializing in specific areas, such as stoichiometry. My background as a summer camp counselor for a youth basketball camp and a travel basketball organization in my hometown have allowed me to translate the years that I've played into effective coaching skills. Working as an educator for local youth organizations and as an intern at a child advocacy center has aided me in being able to work and communicate with individuals from all different backgrounds with patience and positive reinforcement.
My approach to tutoring focuses on active practice and repetition. The subjects I love are best learned through rinse-and-repeat, where you're truly challenged on your understanding. This builds comfortability over time with the topics, and can be applied to real-world applications later on. Building a solid foundation is the key to further improvement and eventually advancing into more difficult subjects. Additionally, I am CPR/BLS certified, and I prioritize a low-stress environment!
