Bio

Hi! I'm Patrick. I graduated magna cum laude with Bachelor's degrees in English and Classical Philology. In college, I loved learning more about the origins of everyday words and the languages that have influenced our culture. These interests led me to learn Latin, Greek, and German, and to pursue a Master's degree and now a Doctorate in Classics. During this time, I have also learned Italian and Spanish, and have begun to read French.

Sharing insights about how these different languages work and interact with English is at the heart of my love of tutoring. A wise teacher once told me, if you only know one culture, then you don't really know any. I find joy in exposing students to other cultures through these other languages. My tutoring experiences have been largely one-on-one, which has allowed my students and me to dive deep into these languages and cultures.

I came into college as a math major, and for all four years, I tutored students from 2nd grade through 10th grade in mathematics (mostly Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry) as well as in Latin. However, for the six years since then, my tutoring has all been in Latin and English. I primarily worked with high school students and undergraduates to achieve success in the reading portions of standardized tests. Knowing Latin roots does wonders for SAT, ACT, and even LSAT and MCAT scores! And learning these roots is possible even outside a traditional Latin classroom setting.

I want each of my students to succeed on the metrics they set with me. Therefore, I welcome suggestions and resources from students and parents and make myself as accessible to them as I can. Feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson!

Latin

Latin

I am in the process of earning my doctorate in Classics, which will qualify me to teach Latin, Ancient Greek, and their cultures and histories at the university level. In pursuit of this degree, I have taught both language and civilization classes for my home university over the past five years.
PSAT

PSAT

As a high school student, I received a top score on the PSAT which placed me among the top 0.5% of students nationwide who took this exam. My score qualified me as a National Merit Scholar with the program of that same name. This achievement, in turn, made me eligible for a competitive National Merit scholarship with The University of Dallas and funded my undergraduate tuition and fees.
