Hey, I'm Alex! I am a UF physics major pursuing a double B.S. in physics and math. I strive to create a learning environment that is centered around the student, with myself as a facilitator through a specifically tailored peer-tutoring strategy.

I have two years of tutoring experience with college-level physics and mathematics. In high school, I volunteered with Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics tutoring organization, completing 10 required volunteer hours per semester. I tutored one-on-one in a classroom format, focusing on precalculus and calculus topics each week. Furthermore, I received an IB diploma and near-perfect scores on IB and AP examinations of calculus and physics, reflecting my experience with college-level subjects early on. I also participated in Science Olympiad county and state competitions, receiving top places in categories with high math discipline, such as 5th in Astronomy in the state. Currently, I continue to work with students of all ages through the UF chapter of the Society of Physics Students Outreach Committee, on which I take part in teaching physics subjects in an interactive way to K-12 students. Additionally, I am a member of the UF Quantum Science for Fundamental Physics research group, have had and continue to maintain a 4.0 GPA, and tutor on the platform "Knack."

When I meet a student, I give them the dominant role in the session, being there as a support agent. I will follow the general lesson plan of the student's course with time allotted for the student to practice skills learned. With physics and math, everything is methodical, making it easy to pinpoint where a student does not understand something when we both work out a problem step-by-step. This focuses time on explaining what is necessary, leaving more time for the student to solidify the concepts at hand. This approach not only gives students a study template but also gives them the tools to be independent learners.

I am easily accessible and respond promptly to any requests, so feel free to schedule a lesson!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have tutored this level of math to students for over 2+ years, and I myself scored a 790/800 on the SAT math portion, which is very similar in style and rigor to the one of the ACT.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta and it is also a subject that I am able to tutor on the platform Knack for college students.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta and it is also a subject that I am able to tutor on the platform Knack for college students.
Astronomy

Astronomy

I am well versed in both astronomy and astrophysics, with experience in properties of the solar system, galaxy evolution, cosmology, and much more. I have also examined simulated exoplanet data to classify and identify a real exoplanet.
Calculus

Calculus

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta and it is also a subject that I am able to tutor on the platform Knack for college students. I received a score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam and can teach differential, integral, and multivariable calculus.
Clarinet

Clarinet

I have played the clarinet for 10 years: my playing experience over this time ranges from middle school to college ensembles, as well as individual performance. When I was in high school, I participated in a wind ensemble and several all-county ensembles, as well as an all-county symphony orchestra. I also participated in county-wide Solo and Ensemble performances, receiving ratings of Superior on repertoire such as Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622. I also have experience playing in marching and pep bands in high school and college.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I use differential equations frequently in physics to solve problems regarding oscillators, motion, and forces. I also received the grade of A+ in an ordinary differential equations class, so I am well-versed in the material and know what material will be tested on.
Ecology

Ecology

I have taken and successfully passed a variety of college level ecology courses. When in high school, I received a score of 5 on the AP Environmental Science exam and a score of 7 on the IB Environmental Systems and Societies SL exam. I also have completed a research project exploring the effects of microplastic pollution on the development of fish embryos using D. rerio as a model organism.
European History

European History

I have taken and successfully passed a variety of college level history courses. In high school, I received a 5 on the AP European History exam. I also tutored for this course in high school in a one-on-one classroom setting for one semester. Additionally, I completed IB Contemporary History HL, receiving a score of 6 on the examination, and have written a history research paper exploring the causes of German aggression that led to WW1.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is used extensively in physics, being a tool I use frequently in fields such as quantum mechanics. I also received a grade of A in a 4000 level proof based linear algebra class that I took, so not only am I well aware of computational aspects, but I understand the backbone of how linear algebra really works.
Physics

Physics

I am currently majoring in Physics in college, so I have plenty of experience dealing with physics ranging from introductory physics to electricity and magnetism. Received a score of high 6 on IB physics, helped students prepare for AP physics 1, and I also tutor introductory physics on the tutoring platform Knack
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta. This is a fairly common introductory math course in middle or high school, so as a college physics major intending on pursuing a double physics and math degree, I have over 7 years experience and 2 years tutoring experience with the topics in this course.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta and it is also a subject that I am able to tutor on the platform Knack for college students.
Russian

Russian

I am fluent in Russian, as it is one of my native languages. I have helped teach Russian to several of my peers in college as part of the UF Russian Culture and Language student organization. I am proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in this language. I also tutor students ranging from high school to adult ages in Russian on Varsity Tutors.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have extensive experience tutoring the levels of Algebra, precalculus, and geometry, featured on this exam; I am also IXL certified, so I can guide students through personalized study plans to maximize their score; and, I myself scored a 790/800 on the SAT math portion, so I know what it takes to get the score you want.
Spanish

Spanish

I am fluent in Spanish, as it is one of my native languages: I can tutor speaking, reading, and writing in this language to beginners through advanced learners. I also graduated high school with a seal of biliteracy in this language, and earned perfect scores on both AP and IB (SL/HL) examinations.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I tutored this subject to my peers in high school through Mu Alpha Theta and it is also a subject that I am able to tutor on the platform Knack for college students. Trigonometry itself is very common in physics and math at a college level, so I have plenty of experience using trigonometry as a method to solve more complicated problems as a physics major and 2 years experience tutoring it.

Reviews

very clear and patient!

Alex was able to help my son review both math and physics in advance of a test when his regular tutor wasn’t available. He was nice and very helpful. My son feels much better and would love to work with him again. I’m so glad he was available on short notice.
