Experienced Math Tutor in Elementary, Middle, and Highschool Math

Hello, my name is Sophia and I am a recent high school graduate, experienced in tutoring math. On both the PSAT and SAT, I scored within the top one percentile which lead me to being granted the Benaquisto scholarship (which is granted to all National Merit Finalists in Florida such as myself). This scholarship gave me a full ride (including room and board) to the University of Florida, where I am currently attending. I am in the University of Florida Honors Program and pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering on the pre-health track.

As far as my tutoring experience, I had worked at a tutoring center for a year, assisting students of ages 6-18. I helped up to four students at a time with both math homework and developing fundamental math skills. Furthermore, I also conducted private, one on one, tutoring sessions, helping students prepare for exams in school. While a majority of students that I tutored were in high school, I have experience privately tutoring students from grades 4-11 in elementary and middle school math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and PSAT/SAT Math and English. My approach towards tutoring when introducing a new topic to a student is to first work through a few example problems with them, step by step. As they become more familiar with the topic, I will gradually step back, until they are able to complete the problem independently. One of my most used strategies when tutoring is to prompt students by asking them questions before revealing to them the answer, allowing them to gain a sense of independence and problem-solving skills.

I love working with students and eliminating their frustration and confusion towards math. In the past, when privately tutoring, I often received positive feedback from parents that were pleased with their child's progress after beginning to work with me.
