Greetings!

My name is Wendy, and I hold a Ph.D. in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience, as well as degrees in Psychology and Philosophy. I have extensive experience in academic writing and research, and I have worked with students at all levels, from high school to doctoral college students.

I specialize in tutoring students in research-related courses such as science, engineering, and technology, as well as literature and philosophy. Many of my students come to me seeking help with academic writing or with understanding complex scientific terminology. I have found that students often benefit most from personalized, one-on-one sessions, and I am happy to work with students online or in person.

In addition to my academic background, I have spent nearly ten years conducting experiments in laboratories and hospitals, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, dementia, and Alzheimer's. This experience has given me a unique perspective on the intersection of research and clinical practice, which I bring to my tutoring sessions.

If you are looking for help with academic writing or research, I would be honored to work with you. Whether you are a high school student struggling with a research paper or a doctoral student in need of guidance with grant applications, I am confident that I can help you achieve your academic goals. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a tutoring session.

English

English

I have always been obsessed with books and reading in general. From a more professional perspective, my undergraduate university personally requested that I join the writing center as a tutor. At the time, only English majors worked there, but they wanted to incorporate STEM. Given that few people pursue dual degrees in both humanities they needed a student that could effectively communicate scientific writing. Oddly enough, I ended up really enjoying that experience and have continued tutoring. Despite differing backgrounds, EVERYONE has had unique thoughts, ideas, perspectives, etc. -- if only we could find the "right" words.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I started tutoring ESL for my undergraduate university in 2002 based on scores from standardized writing exams. In addition, I have published eight academic publications in peer-reviewed journals (as the first author) and won numerous awards for writing. One such award was from The Howard Hughes Medical Institute for mentoring students in scientific writing.
Literature

Literature

Although I am not strictly a literature professor, I have a humanities degree in "Language, Literature & Philosophy" (2010, Armstrong University, Savannah, Georgia). Words have always been incredibly powerful, and I tend to read a lot of books. At one point, I went through the entire list of "National Book Award" recipients out of sheer curiosity. As a psychologist, I wanted to understand why certain stories/writers resonated more than others.
Philosophy

Philosophy

Philosophy is one of my favorite subjects. In many ways, it created the foundation for what we now recognize as modern science and/or psychology. My first degree was in this field. Without philosophy, a scientist could never comprehend the concept of "why" -- only "how."
Writing

Writing

I have been tutoring and teaching academic writing for 20+ years. My expertise is primarily in STEM fields and social sciences (ranging from assisting ESL undergraduate students to those working on dissertations or publications). In addition, I have a B.A. in Philosophy and can assist with humanities (particularly assignments related to ethics or sociology).
