Hello! My name is Emma, and I’m a full-time Wildlife Biologist with a passion for helping students succeed in science, reading, and writing. I graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Aquatic Sciences: Marine & Freshwater Biology, along with minors in Wildlife Science and Environmental Law and Policy. My academic background provides a strong foundation in biology, ecology, environmental science, and scientific reading and writing.
I have experience teaching and tutoring students across a wide range of ages and learning environments. At Purdue, I served as a Teaching Assistant for two upper-level courses—Ecotoxicology and Aquatic Sampling Techniques—where I evaluated assignments, guided project teams, led one-on-one support sessions, and taught hands-on skills such as necropsies, internal health assessments, and anatomical identification. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain complex topics clearly and step by step.
Outside the classroom, I worked as a Naturalist at a National Wildlife Refuge, leading educational programs for children, families, tourists, and private groups. I taught coastal ecology, wildlife identification, conservation biology, and human-wildlife coexistence, adapting lessons to different learning styles and backgrounds. I also helped learners connect classroom concepts to real-world environmental issues, including post-hurricane ecological changes.
My teaching journey began in high school as a cadet teacher for 2nd grade (all subjects) and 7th grade English, shaping my patient, encouraging approach. As a tutor, I focus on identifying gaps in understanding, building confidence, and helping students develop long-term comprehension rather than memorization. Whether supporting college coursework, ACT/SAT prep, or foundational skills, I tailor each session to the student’s needs.
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, supportive tutor with real-world science experience, I’d be excited to work with you!

State-Level Wildlife Biologist III
Earth Science

Earth Science

My background in Earth Science is both academically grounded and professionally applied. I hold a B.S. in Aquatic Sciences with minors in Wildlife Science and Environmental Law and Policy, giving me a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of the systems that shape our planet. This combination of fields allows me to explain Earth Science concepts through multiple lenses—ecology, geology, water systems, conservation, and environmental policy. In my career as a state wildlife biologist, I work directly at the intersection of people, wildlife, and the environment. I regularly interpret scientific research, apply ecological principles to real‑world situations, and communicate complex information to the public through presentations, reports, and one‑on‑one conversations. These responsibilities have strengthened not only my subject‑matter expertise but also my ability to teach clearly, patiently, and effectively. Because I use Earth Science every day in a practical, problem‑solving context, I’m able to help students understand not just the “what,” but the “why”—how Earth systems function, how humans interact with them, and why these concepts matter.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

My qualifications for tutoring essay writing come from both my academic training and my professional experience. Throughout my B.S. in Aquatic Sciences and my minors in Wildlife Science and Environmental Law and Policy, I completed extensive writing‑intensive coursework. These programs required clear, well‑structured analytical writing, research‑based arguments, and the ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in an accessible way—all core skills in strong essay writing. In my role as a state wildlife biologist, writing is a central part of my job. I regularly prepare reports, craft guidance documents, and translate technical research into language the public can understand. I also give presentations and communicate with diverse audiences, which has strengthened my ability to organize ideas, tailor messages to different readers, and explain concepts clearly and confidently. Because I use writing every day in a practical, real‑world context, I’m able to help students develop not just polished essays, but the underlying skills that make writing effective: clarity, structure, critical thinking, and purposeful communication.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My qualifications for tutoring public speaking come from years of communicating complex scientific information to diverse audiences. As a state wildlife biologist, I regularly give presentations, lead workshops, and speak with members of the public, policymakers, and professionals. These experiences have strengthened my ability to organize ideas clearly, adjust my message for different audiences, and speak with confidence and clarity. My academic background in Aquatic Sciences, Wildlife Science, and Environmental Law and Policy also required frequent presentations and group communication, giving me a strong foundation in effective verbal communication and structured delivery. Because I rely on public speaking in my career—whether explaining research, guiding conflict‑resolution strategies, or educating communities—I’m able to help students develop practical skills in clarity, pacing, confidence, and audience engagement. My goal is to make public speaking feel approachable and empowering for every learner.
United States History

United States History

My background equips me well to tutor U.S. History because my education and professional work both involve understanding how historical events shape modern environmental policy, wildlife management, and public decision‑making. Through my studies in Aquatic Sciences, Wildlife Science, and Environmental Law and Policy, I gained a strong foundation in how U.S. laws, government structures, and historical developments influence today’s environmental systems and regulations. These programs required analyzing primary sources, understanding the evolution of major federal policies, and connecting historical context to present‑day issues—core skills in studying U.S. history. In my role as a state wildlife biologist, I frequently work with laws, policies, and management practices that are deeply rooted in American historical developments. This requires interpreting historical documents, understanding how past events guide current practices, and communicating that information clearly to the public. Because I regularly translate complex information into accessible explanations, I’m able to help students grasp historical concepts, see cause‑and‑effect relationships, and build strong analytical skills. My goal is to help students understand not just what happened in U.S. history, but why it matters and how it connects to the world they live in today.
Zoology

Zoology

I possess a B.S. in Aquatic Sciences, along with minors in Wildlife Science and Environmental Law and Policy, which gives me a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of zoology and animal conservation. I’ve taught zoological concepts in multiple settings—both as a university Teaching Assistant and as a Naturalist—where I’ve guided learners through everything from anatomy and behavior to ecology and field methods. Furthermore, I work full-time as professional wildlife biologist, where I provide technical assistance to the public regarding managing human-wildlife conflicts.
