I taught in the Lee County School District for seven years, starting in 2011 as a social studies and AVID Elective teacher at Lehigh Senior High School. I taught 10th-grade European history and 11th-grade United States history to a diverse group of students. In 2013, I began my master's program, completing it in 2016 and earning my educational leadership degree. During my time in the AVID elective, a college preparation program for students with individual determination, I honed my adaptive teaching and learning skills. AVID provided me with the opportunity to work with students in the academic middle to a high level, offering multiple opportunities for success through structured support. While I enjoyed teaching social studies, it was the AVID elective that truly ignited my passion. Helping students develop their learning and critical thinking skills was always a highlight for me. I utilized the tutorial system within AVID to guide students in solving core content area questions, encouraging peer collaboration and inquiry-based learning. Over five years, I led various AVID groups, working with students from freshman to senior year. In 2016, I transitioned to teaching middle school, gaining valuable experience as a resource specialist for students in the lower 25th percentile. Here, I focused on developing reading and studying techniques to improve struggling learners' grades and confidence. While I ultimately resigned from teaching in 2018 due to burnout and financial constraints, my passion for helping young people learn and develop effective learning strategies remains strong. I firmly believe in the importance of note-taking in the learning process and emphasize techniques such as Cornell notes and note review in my teaching. I employ a variety of teaching methods, including audio, visual, hands-on exercises, PowerPoint presentations, coaching, simulations, role-playing, and research activities, to ensure that every student has the opportunity to grasp new concepts effectively.
