About Alexander

Bio

Starting in Broward County, I tutored mathematics through the math club at my high school, Cypress Bay, where I received over 60 service hours. After graduating, I continued tutoring through private sessions that were personally scheduled, throughout my entire undergraduate college career. Theses sessions varied in subject, including introductory statistics, algebra, calculus, and more.

After receiving a 4-year degree, I spent 2 years teaching physics labs, spending 1 year at Florida International University, and then another year at Florida State University. As a university teaching assistant, I also help students outside of the lab at my office hours, with question from the lectured class. During my year at Florida International University, I spent one semester teaching a physics problem solving course, where problem solutions were demonstrated for a class of students, like a traditional classroom setting with students asking questions for immediate feedback.

I understand that there is always more than one way to solve a problem. What is an easy method for one student may not work as well for another. I also put less value on the final answer and more emphasis on the solving steps. Many students are quite mathematically capable, but due to a poor teaching environments, many students loose their confidence in their ability. This hesitation to answer questions acts as a bigger anchor than actual intelligence, which is why I also develop students trust in themselves and encourage making mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn.

I am quite available this spring until june, and am accepting new students. If you're interested in receiving tutoring in math or science, please contact me through Wyzant. I look forward to working with you.
