I am the senior research analyst for a large school district, with expert knowledge of statistics, and a strong mathematical background that I excel at imparting to students. I have served as an adjunct professor and a teaching assistant in quantitative disciplines as well as in the capacity of a reading therapist. I have served on several dissertation committees and enjoy working with students helping them to extend their thinking. I hold a Doctorate in Education concentrating in Research, Leadership, and Policy; a Master of Business Administration in Management Science; and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
My common professional and teaching goal is to illuminate the way things work leading to a higher level of understanding and ultimately to superior performance. As a mentor, I believe that learning is a two-way exchange and only as good as the effort expended. Stress is lessened when a student meets his/her responsibilities and completes assignments in a timely fashion. Self-esteem is heightened when students can demonstrate understanding of the subject matter. I had three sessions with Steven. I needed help with statistics and using SPSS. He was very patient and wanted to make sure that I understood why I was doing things and not just telling me how to do it. He even printed out material that would help me study and gave it to me at our second session. He is very knowledgeable in statistics. I would recommend him to anyone that needs help in the subject.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have over 30 years experience working in the fields of engineering (bachelor), business (master), and educational research (doctorate), and experience as a calculus instructor and adjunct statistics professor. I have also successfully tutored family members.
I use mathematics daily in my capacity as a educational researcher and in my previous capacity as an electrical engineer. I have taught quantitative disciplines at two universities and also operated a tutoring clinic.
I have over twenty years experience using computers in my position as educational researcher involving access to multiple databases and software on the corporate LAN. I also serve as SPSS entity contact and work with the mainframe. I previously worked as a programmer in education, financial services, and conducted simulations while working as an engineer.
I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with a concentration in Leadership, Research, and Policy studies. My policy coursework is equivalent to that of a doctorate in Public Administration.
I have extensive doctoral coursework in Organizational Psychology as part of my doctoral degree, additional coursework at the master's level, and extensive work experience in measurement and psychological assessment.
Achieving the maximum score requires, skill, strategy, and knowledge of test design. I have worked extensively with standardized tests, item response theory, and understand computer adaptive tests. I have also given a workshop on item analysis. This knowledge enabled me to boost my own score by over 1 standard deviation five years ago when I took the graduate record exam.
I have nearly 25 years experience as an Educational Researcher in which I process and analyze student demographic and assessment data on a daily basis using SPSS.
I have nearly 25 years experience as an Educational Researcher and have served as an Adjunct Professor of Statistics. I am a past recipient by Division H of the American Educational Research Association of its outstanding dissertation and publication awards.
I have written scores of technical and non-technical reports during over thirty years as an educational researcher, and previously, as an engineer. Some, including my doctoral dissertation, have been nationally recognized.
