Bethune Cookman University (Gerontology)
My name is Taylor and I am recent graduate of Bethune-Cookman University. While attending there, I earned my bachelors in Gerontology. While in college, I volunteered at the local Boys and Girls Club. It was there I had the opportunity to tutor students for the first time. I also offered private tutoring among my peers in college. I learned that I have a genuine interest in making sure the student understands the lesson.
What I love about tutoring is that it gives you the chance to reach the student, when the teacher cannot. The informal environment makes it more comfortable for the student to learn. Being one-on-one relieves any pressure that they may feel being in a classroom. I speak from experience because I have been tutored many times over my academic career.
I am currently pursing a career medicine, so I have an extensive background with science courses. I have taken courses such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, however I specialize in biology. Besides taking the courses, I have a true passion for science and how each subject ties in with each other.I have always been proficient in science due to my strong reading and comprehension skills. On any standardized test, I always scored the highest in the reading sections. On my recent mock MCAT exam, I scored highest in the reading comprehension section.
Because I have taken higher level science courses, I've sharpen my comprehensive and critical thinking skills over the years. I've mastered reading and comprehending various styles of writing such as: expository, descriptive, and narrative writing. I've also mastered techniques that will help your student identify the main idea, draw conclusions, and be an overall better student. As a foundation to reading, I make sure the student is comfortable with the concept of phonics, and how to apply it to reading.
Sessions can be held at the library or anywhere the student feels comfortable. I am open to traveling up to 15 miles outside my radius. If you need any help please feel free to contact me. I will do my best to reply within a hour.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
