About Cathy

Hello there! My name is Cathy and over the years I have continuously been a student. Most recently I have taught myself Advanced Medical Terminology, learned how to create a website of my own and have retired with 30 years' experience in mortgage lending, title searching, and quality control in savings and loan companies, banks, and mortgage companies.

As for tutoring, under the library literary program, I experienced teaching another adult how to read English. Although English was his native language he never learned to read. He was in his 40's and never had the chance to learn. He was one of eleven children. We celebrated his progress at his birthday party after 1 1/2 years of tutoring.

I certainly look forward to tutoring again. I hope to tutor you. By the way, I am the oldest of 6 children, so I grew up doing that with my brothers and sisters. So I know how it can be when a little boost is needed to get you over the top!

It will be my goal to find out how you learn best. No worries, ok? I hope to hear from you soon and that I can assist you successfully.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Having taken classes in another language for 4 years and then living in the country where the language was spoken, I obtained great knowledge of this subject's importance.

Grammar

English grammar has been a specialty of mine throughout schooling and as an adult business person. It's a special way of studying how to properly structure sentences in English.

Reading

I read approximately 50 books per year. It is my favorite way to relax and to learn and is most enjoyable to me.

Spelling

This subject is very important to me. Knowing the correct way to spell words can increase your vocabulary every day. It also keeps the reader of your written words sure of the meaning.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is being able to use the most accurate word when given a choice. The more words you learn, the better you understand, speak, and write.
