Hi! My name is Katie, and I am currently a student at the University of Notre Dame studying Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) with additional coursework in Irish Studies. My tutoring approach emphasizes building strong conceptual understanding and adapting explanations to each student’s learning style.
For math students, I specialize in Algebra I, Algebra II, and introductory Calculus. In high school, I earned a score of 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam. I have also completed college-level courses in calculus, applied mathematics, probability, linear algebra, scientific computing, statistics, and numerical analysis. In addition to my academic background, I have experience tutoring middle school students in algebra concepts in one-on-one settings. I also spent several years coaching diving to children ages 5-15, developing experience communicating concepts clearly, working with a range of ages, and helping students build confidence and problem-solving skills.
I also offer tutoring in beginner to intermediate Irish language (Gaeilge), with a particular focus on Ulster Irish. I have completed four semesters of university-level Irish through the University of Notre Dame’s Irish Studies program, which is widely recognized as one of the leading Irish language and Irish studies programs in North America. To further develop my language skills, I completed a month-long language immersion program at Oideas Gael in the Donegal Gaeltacht, where I studied and used Irish in daily life. I also studied for a year under a fluent Ulster Irish speaker and regularly participated in one-on-one conversation practice and individualized language instruction with her.
In addition to formal coursework and immersion experience, I have helped teach complete beginner Irish learners at language immersion weekends. I especially enjoy working with students who are beginning Irish, building conversational confidence, or looking for support with grammar, pronunciation, and foundational language skills.
