Hi, I'm Jesse-Burton!

I hold a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy and Entrepreneurship) from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Education (MEd), and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science — a writing-intensive program that built a strong foundation in academic writing. I completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Bologna, Italy, and have been teaching at the university level since 2012. In addition to undergraduate instruction, I have served as a TA for graduate-level courses and am a published academic author.

Beyond the classroom, I've worked in academic administration — including overseeing an English Department and serving as a project manager in the Dean's office at Katz Graduate School of Business — drafting high-level reports and correspondence on behalf of department chairs and deans.

I believe learning should be engaging and tailored to the individual. I use an experience-based approach, giving students opportunities to actively apply what they're learning rather than passively absorbing it. This helps me identify gaps in understanding and adapt my methods to each student's learning style. I have experience teaching writing from introductory high school essays through advanced graduate academic writing, and I have worked extensively with non-native English speakers — including teaching abroad — helping them develop stronger grammar, style, and voice. I can edit and revise written work with detailed feedback so students learn from the process, not just receive a finished product. I also tutor political science, social sciences, and humanities subjects at both the secondary and university levels.

I have a very flexible schedule and am happy to accommodate needs outside standard time slots. I look forward to working with you!
