Hi! I'm Tamara. I graduated suma cum laude with my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. When I was in college, I gravitated towards professors who made the class interesting and dynamic. My favorite professors were those went the extra mile to help me understand the content. I try to mimic this style when tutoring others. After all, children are apt to enjoy the learning experience if they're engaged. I use lesson plans in which I introduce the topic in a fun and non-threatening way. Only then, do I move on to explain the material more in depth. Afterwards, I always give students time to practice the skills that they have learned. I also understand that each child learns at their own pace, so tailoring my approach is paramount to a child's success.
I have six years' experience working with children who have ADHD. I worked directly with these students, as they typically needed additional assistance in the classroom. I have also worked with groups of students and feel comfortable working with young children and teenagers alike. I also taught parents various study/organizational skills to help their child achieve their goals. Truly, the most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing kiddos reach their goals! Their sense of pride increases and so does their self-esteem. I have tutoring experience in Grammar, Reading, Math, and Elementary Education. I am also fully bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
