I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an AB in English Education. Then I began teaching 7th grade English, and I realized that many of my students could not read, so I received certification in special education from the University of Maryland. I have taught primarily middle school English, science, and social studies and high school English in Maryland, Alabama, Georgia, and in St. Thomas, the U. S. Virgin Islands. I have also taught adults in night school as well as tutored elementary students in an after-school program. To broaden my knowledge I also received my Master's Degree in Education from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I have been teaching for a long time because I enjoy working with students and trying to find ways of making learning more enjoyable and attainable for them. Because of my special education background, I have taught students of all abilities, from gifted to disabled, and those with emotional and behavioral issues. As a teacher, I am very student-centered and try to treat my students individually, trying to see what works best for them and making them feel comfortable and able to take risks in the learning environment. I have tutored students of ages seven to eighteen.
My favorite subject to teach and tutor is English, but I also feel comfortable with elementary math social studies. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, crocheting, swimming, boating, and watching TV.
