Dear Curious Student or Parent!
Since 1997, I’ve had the privilege of helping students from all walks of life achieve their academic goals, from mastering subjects to excelling in test preparation. My approach breaks down complex material into understandable parts, allowing students to become experts and score higher on exams. With years of experience, I’ve helped countless students overcome their frustrations with testing, and can confidently say that no student has failed under my guidance. I graduated with honors from Harvard College with a degree in economics and a medical degree, scoring perfectly on the SATs in one sitting. I’ve consistently ranked in the top percentiles on standardized tests like the SAT, PSAT, and MCAT. In addition to my personal academic success, I’ve been a professional member of the National Tutoring Association, preceptor at Nova Southeastern University and associate professor at the Orlando College of Medicine. My experience extends internationally, as I’ve taught students as far as India!

I offer support in subjects like science, writing, career planning, and college applications, drawing on my experience on admissions committees. I create a stress-free environment where students first understand the material and then learn to apply it effectively in tests. Sessions are fast-paced and engaging, designed to build confidence while enjoying the learning process. Although my rates may seem higher than others, I prepare personalized materials for each session, ensuring students meet their learning objectives in a focused and productive way. I would welcome the opportunity to help you or your student reach your full potential and look forward to hearing from you soon!
Looking forward to it!

Reviews

Jim's passion for science is evident in his teaching!

I'm beginning a rigorous academic program and worried that my knowledge and understanding of some foundations are weak and that new information is difficult to master. I reviewed these subjects on my own, but didn't feel I was truly understanding or retaining the information. After one session with Jim I'm confident I can not only grasp the material, but I will retain it. Jim breaks down complicated processes into easy to understand steps. More importantly, he gives relevance to subjects that can seem strictly theoretical. Jim has an incredible depth of knowledge and is able to communicate that knowledge to his students; he can evaluate the student's understanding and, if necessary, will explain a difficult concept in a different way before moving on. Jim is highly organized and tutoring time is efficient and effective. I recommend Jim for any student at any level; his enthusiasm for his subjects makes learning enjoyable.

Excellent!!

Jim spent the extra time with Ryan on his English essay, really trying to get him to use his own thoughts about the novel he read. I believe he made it so Ryan understood the story line better as well as the characters. Shakespeare is tough!!

Excellent Tutor

I hired Jim to tutor my daughter for her upcoming TEAS exam. I was pleased to find out that his wife Erica is also a tutor (on WyzAnt). Between the both of them, they were able to cross tutor my daughter, offering their individual expertise in the areas needed. They both are very professional and seem to really care about their students!

A Great Tutor/Great Find

I found Jim L through Wyzant. I was looking for a tutor who could help my son with high school chemistry. My son was lost and frustrated and losing confidence in his ability. I contacted Jim and he called me back immediately. We spoke for a long time about my son, his strengths and deficiencies and his learning style. Jim made room in his schedule for my son right away. After one session of tutoring, Jim was able to break down the chemistry concepts into smaller, more manageable lessons to the point my son thoroughly understood. Jim kept my son engaged and, through his patience, was able to make my son understand that chemistry is not as intimidating as it seems. Jim provided him with notes that he could study and apply on his own to enable him to be a more independent learner and thus, build confidence in himself. I highly recommend Jim.

Fantastic tutor and a great motivator

Our son has now had 7 MCAT tutoring sessions with Jim and we are extremely satisfied. Jim dives right in with the student and determines their capabilities then proceeds to focus on the scope of material for the MCAT test. He is very professional and encourages the student's strengths while building on weaknesses. Jim keeps the student on track and moving forward with practice testing and building on precision and fluency. We are very excited on our son's progress in just a few tutoring sessions.
