Heather R.

I have a master's degree in theatre, and through that training my biggest desire as a teacher has been to impart the passion and love that I have for the theatre. It is something that I experienced at a very young age and is definitely a huge part of who I am. I have been inspired by the teachers that I have had as an actor, and in turn having been able to give to others what has been richly given to me, is a blessing.

The area to which I have devoted most of my time as an actor and a teacher is method acting. The tools available to an artist within this concentration are invaluable, and it is through these tools that I am able to impart to my students the importance of bringing themselves and their experiences to the characters that they will bring to life.

The tool box that I bring to my students is there to both empower them and challenge them. The work that we do includes, relaxation, exercises to promote expression, observation and exploration of human behavior, developing a critical eye, collaboration, research, exploring the character through different approaches, fearlessness, and being a self-learner.

I believe that as a teacher I have the following responsibilities:
-To become a student of my students - I must study and observe them in order to be able to guide them individually... watching how they respond, and to what degree, to each exercise.

-Modeling appropriate behavior, and in doing so, instilling values which will stay with them for a lifetime.

-Encouraging them where they are strong, which helps to give them ownership of their craft, but also help them to develop the areas in which they need growth.

-Create a safe environment conducive to students stepping outside of their comfort zone, so they can grow and in the process surprise themselves.

Please note that I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but I do offer makeup lessons.
