Stanford University (BSME)
In addition to a strong academic background (BSME from Stanford University and MBA from UCLA) and business experience, I have been tutoring in Palm Beach for over 15 years, including 7 years with Kumon Math.
I have proven strategies for success on all disciplines of the SAT, and ACT and can explain how these tests integrate into the college application process.
My experience enables me not only to teach math at higher levels, but to help students strengthen their core skills (does anyone remember the "Three 'R's"?).
My favorite quote from students is, "Why didn't someone explain this to me this way the first time. It is so much easier to understand than I thought." So, if you want that "light bulb" to go on in your student's mind, let's discuss what you need.
I have extensive experience with students with ADD/ADHD and test anxiety issues. In addition to a strong academic background (BSME from Stanford University and MBA from UCLA) and business experience, I have been tutoring in Palm Beach for over 15 years, including 7 years with Kumon Math.

Bob worked with my 13 year old daughter for 6 weeks (1 x per wk for 1 hour) to prep for her SSAT's. She had never worked with a tutor before and had no idea what to expect. She went into the process highly nervous and anxious about the test but after just the 1st lesson with Bob, she felt a weight lifted off her shoulders and was optimistic that she would do well. She indicated that she learned so much in the initial meeting and looked forward to the remaining weeks to build on what he'd taught her.
Bob interacted with my daughter easily and used positive tactics to help her approach the test wisely. Each session she had with him was packed with strategy, tips, and encouragement. Using a supportive and "learn from your errors" approach, not only is Bob easy to talk to but he is easy to understand. The examples he shared with her truly drove home the concepts they discussed in each session.
By the last lesson, my daughter told me she was not just prepared for the SSAT's, but confident she would do well. She was also a little sad to be finished with her lessons because she enjoyed learning with Bob. As he noted, we hope we don't have to see him again because she's done so well on the test. :-) However if happen to need to brush up on test taking skills, we're certainly going to seek his expertise!
Great tutor for my son. He was able to make things click easily and quickly. Was very patient and helpful. He knew exactly where the problems were and helped my son overcome them.
Bob was exceptionally helpful and realistic when it came to test strategies. I feel very prepared for my upcoming GRE exam and would highly recommend him to anyone for test preparation and sound academic guidance! Thanks Bob!!

My son is very happy with Bob, he makes him use his brain more than a calculator. My son feels much more confident now. THANK YOU BOB. Bob is also VERY PUNCTUAL and flexible, easy to reach, very helpful.
My son is attending a challenging engineering college. He was having problems with Calculus, with re-test required to pass the course. While home on Spring Break, Robert B. identified areas of concern and worked diligently with my son to get him up to speed to tackle the re-test. The result was a grade well beyond passing level for the course.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My business career has been quite eclectic in that I have worked in several industries and have held positions in industrial engineering, project engineering, engineering management, production management, and sales.
I have successfully orchestrated turnarounds of failing companies as their President, and have owned and operated my own small business for over 15 years.
This background enables me to work with you both in specific areas as well as coordinating the efforts of various disciplines (AKA management).
I have worked for over ten years with students of all ages including basic math, reading, and writing skills and have developed a back to basics math program designed to strengthen skill sets that are often neglected in the school system.
I speak French and am conversant in Spanish and thus can help in these areas. This also gives me comparative language skills to integrate into the teaching of basic English.
I have a solid background in the sciences as I tutor them at a level well above K through 6, but this gives me a great understanding of the material and my experience has taught me how to relate this information to younger students.
And finally, my well rounded background enables me to show young students the connections between the various disciplines studied to get them excited about learning.
I have qualified for the SSAT. The ISEE is a test used for the same purpose: admissions to secondary schools. While the subject matter is the same, the format for the ISEE differs from the SSAT in much the same way that the ACT differs from SAT.
I have mastered the skills for both test, in addition to the SAT and ACT, and have the experience teaching the ISEE.
