In addition to a strong academic background and business experience, I have been tutoring in Palm Beach for over 12 years, including 7 years with Kumon Math.
I have proven strategies for success on all disciplines of the SAT, SSAT,ACT and ISEE and can explain how these tests integrate into the college application process.
My experience enables me not only to teach math at higher levels, but to help students strengthen their core skills (does anyone remember the "Three 'R's"?).
My favorite quote from students is, "Why didn't someone explain this to me this way the first time. It is so much easier to understand than I thought." So, if you want that "lightbulb" to go on in your student's mind, let's discuss what you need.
I have extensive experience with students with ADD/ADHD and test anxiety issues. In addition to a strong academic background and business experience, I have been tutoring in Palm Beach for over 12 years, including 7 years with Kumon Math.

My son is attending a challenging engineering college. He was having problems with Calculus, with re-test required to pass the course. While home on Spring Break, Robert B. identified areas of concern and worked diligently with my son to get him up to speed to tackle the re-test. The result was a grade well beyond passing level for the course.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My business career has been quite eclectic in that I have worked in several industries and have held positions in industrial engineering, project engineering, engineering management, production management, and sales.
I have successfully orchestrated turnarounds of failing companies as their President, and have owned and operated my own small business for over 15 years.
This background enables me to work with you both in specific areas as well as coordinating the efforts of various disciplines (AKA management).
I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and have, as a part of the ME curriculum, studied mathematics to advanced levels including differential equations and partial differential equations. In addition, I have studied and tutored mathematics at all levels from elementary math through AP and IP calculus.
I have worked for over ten years with students of all ages including basic math, reading, and writing skills and have developed a back to basics math program designed to strengthen skill sets that are often neglected in the school system.
I speak French and am conversant in Spanish and thus can help in these areas. This also gives me comparative language skills to integrate into the teaching of basic English.
I have a solid background in the sciences as I tutor them at a level well above K through 6, but this gives me a great understanding of the material and my experience has taught me how to relate this information to younger students.
And finally, my well rounded background enables me to show young students the connections between the various disciplines studied to get them excited about learning.
I have qualified for the SSAT. The ISEE is a test used for the same purpose: admissions to secondary schools. While the subject matter is the same, the format for the ISEE differs from the SSAT in much the same way that the ACT differs from SAT.
I have mastered the skills for both test, in addition to the SAT and ACT, and have the experience teaching the ISEE.
Study skills involves a broad ranging knowledge of the typical topics in the curriculum. In that I have tutored math, English, Chemistry, Physics, history, both world and U.S., and writing, I have the requisite background to work with students on their study skill for various disciplines.
I specifically focus on organization first. The structuring of notebooks and assignment logs for each course. This can be set up with a sign off list for parents or tutors to verify and be checked against teacher records.
I then work on selecting a regular time to study and the establishment of a work environment that is conducive to study (no tv, phone, etc).
Then each subject is tackled by ensuring that the proper tools are available and that specific strategies are developed to enhance the effectiveness of the study.
The TEAS test is a broad, general knowledge test similar to ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT for which I am already certified. I have successfully worked with one student in the past on this test. As you will note from the subjects for which I am certified, I am knowledgeable about all elements included in the TEAS test.
