Hi there, fellow scholars! I'm Courtney, and I'm pleased to meet you! I hold a Master's degree in English and have over six years of combined teaching and tutoring experience. From August 2023 to May 2025, I taught English Composition I and II at the collegiate level, working with students from different backgrounds, including ESL students and students on the autism spectrum. My tutoring journey began at fifteen, when I volunteered as an after-school English and math tutor. Since then, I've worked with students ages six through adulthood, both one-on-one and in classrooms, teaching everything from foundational reading and mathematics to research, literary analysis, and academic writing.
My approach to teaching is individualized: I meet you where you are. If you come to me with an essay, my job isn't to rewrite it for you. Instead, I want to give you the tools to revise it yourself, confidently and independently. At the end of the day, you're the master of your craft. Your word choice, your syntax, your ideas—they belong to you. I'm here to help you strengthen your arguments, support your claims with evidence, integrate sources, and give credit where it's due.
I also believe that writing, even academic writing, can and should be exciting! My graduate thesis blended creative writing with literary theory, reinforcing something I share with every student: academic writing has rules, but it doesn't have to lose its personality. Whether we're tackling MLA citations, developing a thesis, practicing phonics, or working through a math problem, my goal is to create a space where questions are welcome, mistakes are part of learning, and students feel confident in their abilities.
Lastly, I believe quality education should be accessible. If my standard rate is genuinely unfeasible, please reach out! I'm happy to discuss a rate that is both reasonable and fair. I also offer discounted rates for students scheduling two or more sessions per week. I look forward to working with you!
