I am a 20+ year accountant with a special knack for explaining accounting and I love helping people learn. I work as a QuickBooks Proadvisor helping small business owners and their staff use QuickBooks and learn how to optimize its use.

When I started out as a freelance remote cloud accountant I was initially disappointed that so many of my clients were one-off rescue operations for people who had made a mess of their QuickBooks accounts. The message was always the same: "thanks, now go away but stay by the phone." My goal was to build a bookkeeping practice of ongoing clients who wanted ME to do their books for them. This went on for some time before it dawned on me that a lot of QuickBooks customers are not looking for a bookkeeper: they want to do their own books themselves - THEY JUST DON'T KNOW HOW. That's when I shifted my focus to QuickBooks training.

I have received positive feedback that something about my teaching style really works! And I know what it is... My special ability to achieve learning was born out of a bad training experience. The person assigned to train me was great at their job but not great at explaining things. They assumed just having me watch them do accounting on a computer and pointing at the screen once in a while would be sufficient. To make matters worse, they got angry when I asked questions, insinuating that my question meant I was "confused." I made a personal vow right there and then never to treat people that way.

I start out by telling people WHAT it is we are about to do - and WHY - before rushing in to the HOW of doing it. I find that providing some basic context for a task - WHAT we're about to do - and WHY it is part of the plan - helps the brain register the import of the training session in a way that improves recall and repetition when you're on your own.

It also doesn't hurt that I'm one of those people who gets a slight thrill when I see the faces of my students light up a little when something that was stumping them is finally made clear with my help.

Financial Accounting

Financial Accounting

All accountants have formal training but not all accountants can teach others how it works. Accounting is not just adding up amounts in a list. It is a very specific formula that when performed properly has meaning, accuracy, is comparable with the accounting reports of other companies and it contains within itself an automatic balancing mechanism. Behind the user-friendly dashboards of all the digital accounting programs is the core language of accounting itself - but what do you do when you still find trouble in paradise? I am one of those accountants who has done accounting in the real world and can translate the concepts to others who have the aptitude and dedication to learn. I am a career accountant. I studied accounting in high school then attended a trade school specializing in accounting and I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I started my career as an Accounting Assistant right away. Since then, I've held positions as staff accountant and accounting manager in different industries for many years before starting my own bookkeeping business helping small-business owners clean up their accounting systems and do their books. Now I have a unanimous 5-star rating from my satisfied clients. I have taught and trained many people in accounting throughout my career. I receive consistent feedback that my approach to teaching and training is effective at achieving knowledge transfer. I developed my first training course, called Accounting 101, just over a year ago, which gives the trainee the basic foundation for comprehending the double-entry nature of the fundamental accounting equation - the debits and credits that are so often ignored in today's world of automated apps that are "supposed" to do everything for the bookkeeper or business owner. Now I am active in working 1-on-1 and in groups to lead the discussions that need to happen for tomorrow's accountants to be born, at least, those who want to sidestep the magnitude of work that goes into a college degree program in accounting. I draw on 22 years of professional experience in Accounting - and digital accounting systems - and more than 5 years as a QuickBooks Proadvisor making my living doing bookkeeping in QuickBooks every day. I've noticed a proliferation of trainers familiar with QuickBooks yet having no depth of knowledge or experience with Accounting - and there are exactly zero questions about Accounting on the certification exam to become a QuickBooks Proadvisor. My clients have awarded me a unanimous 5-star rating as a Proadvisor for not only cleaning up and keeping their books balanced but also for my communication skills, my unique ability to translate technical concepts specific to QuickBooks, often to non-financial personnel.

A rare and wonderful Tutor/Quickbooks superhero!

Tim was amazing at quickly accessing the situation, finding solutions, patiently guiding without simply doing what is needed to be done for me. I really feel empowered and his teaching style really gave me time to absorb the lessons and techniques so I feel comfortable applying them on my own. I look forward to future lessons and doing my own bookkeeping as it's the kind of thing I actually enjoy and like to keep on top of, but knowing I have such an excellent resource to help with any issues that may arise gives me a lot more confidence. I would highly recommend Tim to anyone just starting with quickbooks or anyone that needs more advanced help.

Tim is extremely knowledgeable and professional

I've been working with Tim for about 6 weeks now. Within minutes, it was clear that Tim is extremely knowledgeable and professional with a great ability to teach. Those characteristics do not always go hand in hand. I inherited a set of books that were a complete mess. Tim has not only been teaching me the skills to take over these books but also helping me troubleshoot and correct the issues at hand. Tim has been an invaluable help to me and our business

Great Tutor

I am new to QuickBooks and have some book keeping experience. I needed some help setting up a family business. Tim was great at walking me through the basics and with a few more lessons I should be good to go.

Excellent Trainer for QBO Integrations

Tim was an excellent tutor and very knowledgable. I was having a major clean up issue with Gusto payroll and the JE's that integrate with QBO. Tim basically dropped what he was doing to help me, went to his other prescheduled call and then came back to assist me further. I had been stressing about getting this fixed especially in the time crunch I had for my client and Tim helped me get everything fixed beautifully! He is very personable, kind, and knowledgable making working with him a pleasure and I will absolutely be asking him for assistance again in the future!

The knowledge and patience of a Saint

I am the Director of Operations for a property management company. The company decided to become a developer of an unfinished community of townhomes. With that, the developer takes control of the HOA. We were spending a fortune on a management company, so we brought it in house. I understand the basic principles of accounting, but not an accounting person by any means and never touched Quickbooks. I paid over $4000 to get trained on QB, and learned some of the basics. I got with Tim, and had 3 sessions (5.5 hrs total) and I have pretty much mastered the areas of QB I need to be involved in. He teaches you the best ways to use QB for YOUR needs are, not what he prefers. I had some weird situations and he figured out the best way for me to handle them. When he teaches you, he has you do the work and explains what and why you are doing it. He explains it in a way that non-accounting person can understand it. He doesn't over explain it. He is flexible with scheduling and will do whatever needs to be done to make sure you understand. Tim is flexible with his schedule and communicates very well. He will be an asset to anyone, as I know he is to me. I will use his services again for sure and I HIGHLY recommend him. Thanks Tim!
