I am a Facilitator over an Extended Day Enrichment Program for Volusia County Schools. I tutor students and help them with homework and teach them different study skills and techniques to help the better understand the assignments from the teacher. I have a program consisting of 75 students and 4 staff members and I am proud to say that we run an excellent program. I also plan different enrichment activities with in our program schedule to help re-enforce what the students are learning in class. I also have experience teaching students grades K-5th as a substitute teacher with Volusia County schools.
I am always looking for new techniques to help the students learn their lessons. What I love the most about tutoring is when a student gets an “ah ha” moment, when understanding becomes clearer. It makes me happy to see my students be successful in school. When I was in college working on my undergraduate degree, I over saw several study groups in which I help a few of my classmates better understand the material that the instructor was going over in class. In fact, it was my college professor who sent a few students my way to see if I could help them. I am proud to say that the students that participated in my study group were all able to pass their mid-terms and final exams.
While I did not major in English, I did major in Sociology and Criminal Justice, which require a lot of reading, writing and understand complex concepts and theories.
Along with my background in the school system, I also have volunteer and paid work experience as a life coach and advocate, dealing with adolescents and adults. I have worked as a child advocate for the Guardian AD Litem, a life coach for youth dealing with drug addiction and I have counseled and advocated for survivors of domestic abuse.
I have a B.A degree in Sociology and a M.S degree in Criminal Justice, while in college I took several courses in subjects of history, and political science. I also read different types of political and history books in my free time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
