Hello! My Name is Dr. Kristian T. and I am a college professor of biology and marine biology. I graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in biology and marine science, and a minor in chemistry. I then went to graduate school at Nova Southeastern University where I received a dual master’s degree in marine biology and coastal zone management, followed by a PhD in marine biology/oceanography. During this academic tenure I have tutored middle school, high school and college students. Tutored topics have included general biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, environmental science, marine biology, oceanography, geology, AP Biology, ACT Science and GRE prep.
I have been asked multiple times as to why I tutor. As I teach full-time I don’t need to do this as a profession. Rather, I tutor because I genuinely enjoy it. Science is a wonderful field but can be difficult. I pride myself on breaking down topics for students so they not only understand the facts, but recognize how concepts relate to each other. My approach is not just to explain theories and answer questions, but to then walk students through material and test their understanding using questions and discussions. I often encourage students to explain topics to me. I strongly believe that you do not truly understand a concept unless you are capable of teaching it to someone else. This approach has been very successful for me as my all of my past students have improved their grades and demonstrated an advanced understanding of the topics I covered.
