Today, as a 53-year-old looking back at my life, I realize I have become who I am today because I’ve never ceased to learn. I have always been a non-apologetic student in life. One fundamental piece to success is a positive mental attitude; the rest can be learned. I tutored in one-on-one sessions at Seminole State College (then Seminole Community College) while pursuing my AA Degree and graduated with a 3.5 GPA. Right after, I served as an overseas Missionary for over 8 years teaching Italian and Spanish to kids from elementary to high school. When I returned to the States, I taught at a Christian Rehabilitation Program for Women in Maryland where I committed 15 more years of my life. There, I accomplished much more than teaching skills — I connected with women exposed to many negative experiences, yet who believed they were made for so much more. It was challenging to help them grow past their struggles, but once we made that shift together and became partners, they proved unstoppable! I then enrolled at the University of Baltimore and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Corporate Communications. It was demanding keeping up with a faster pace I was accustomed to but quickly developed time-management tools and became creative and resourceful. A year after graduating I got married and as soon as my first son could sit at a high chair I was already teaching him the alphabet, colors and numbers in Spanish and English. Then came the second and third child. I homeschooled my three boys for 16 years. Today they are Honor Students because or their foundation. Among other things, I have learned that, though some aspects of life come easier to some of us than others, when we make that mental shift from “I can’t” to “I can,” that’s when the magic happens. The possibilities are endless. New worlds open up and we become a whole new person. That's the value I bring...the love of learning and overcoming.
