This is a review of the first session with Deborah. Deborah took the time to explain specific strategies that she was going to use in the future with my daughter. She is an active listener, and she gave us extra time, time needed for Deborah to understand the big picture. She gave us extra time, time I needed to understand the methods Deborah would use with my daughter. The communication at the first meeting was a two way conversation. Deborah is positive, and that is something that is needed for my daughter to succeed. I have high hopes for the future with Deborah.
I enjoyed my session with Deb. She is very knowledgeable and I believe that she can help me to succeed my goal! Thank you !
In the months I have been working with Deb I have increased my skills greatly I would recommend her to anyone.
Deborah has been great with my child and talking with me every week about his progress. I am very happy with her and the WyzAnt selection process.
We've only had a couple of lessons with Deborah thus far, but I have to say she has really helped point us in the right direction with our homeschool studies. We sought out her help with our 10 year old daughter. She has dyslexia and often has a hard time sitting still and concentrating. She struggles with reading and writing in particular. Deborah has been patient with her and has had success in keeping her engaged and focused. I look forward to continued sessions and a successful partnership that will help our daughter succeed in many areas of study. Many thanks to Deborah for getting back to us so promptly and setting up sessions within days of contacting her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and a M.A. in Human Development. I graduated with a perfect 4.0. I have many years of experience teaching Special Education, specifically, students with ADD/ADHD.
I utilize various strategies to compensate for the student's inability to concentrate and follow directions. I focus on the student's strengths and interests. I gauge progress incrementally, so that the student feels successful, and he wants to set goals and achieve greater success.

I tutor early childhood and elementary age children, so I have the opportunity to teach handwriting on a regular basis, as part of the curriculum for Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have all of the little stories and mnemonics to help children remember letters and numbers. My elementary school teachers expected near perfection in handwriting, so I learned cursive writing and print quite well, and I can make it fun and enjoyable. I have experience teaching handwriting, cursive and print, in the classroom and to my students whom I tutor privately.

I have been teaching Reading through phonics prior to 1989 when I was studying to become an educator. Phonics is the foundation for new readers. It is an effective tool to teach Spelling as well as Writing. I love teaching Reading with phonics. Students love phonics, too. Students readily understand the relationship between each letter and sound and ultimately sounding and blending to read a word. It is absolutely beautiful and wonderful to see a non-reader become a fluent reader. I don't believe there is one person that I cannot teach Reading through phonics!
I routinely proofread, whenever I read or write something, and I naturally encourage my students to do the same, when I tutor them.
