About Charles

Bio

I’m a structural engineer specializing in residential construction, with a strong background in CAD, BIM, and structural design. On Wyzant, I help students and professionals sharpen their skills in AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, and other engineering and architectural tools. Whether you’re learning the basics, tackling a class project, or applying these tools on the job, I’ll guide you with clear steps, efficient workflows, and a deeper understanding of the “why” behind the work.

My students range from college learners and licensed professionals, to adults developing new skills. Some come to me for engineering fundamentals test prep, others for live support on architectural, engineering, or drafting projects. I also tutor core subjects like physics and mechanics, so you get help with both the software and the principles behind it. Every lesson is tailored to your goals, blending theory with hands-on problem-solving so you leave with both clarity and practical results.

My teaching style is relaxed and collaborative. In our first session, we’ll set clear goals and figure out how you learn best - whether that’s through demos, working through problems together, or step-by-step breakdowns. I use screen-sharing and real-time guidance so you can immediately apply what you’re learning.

Outside of tutoring, I’m passionate about architecture and interior design, and I also enjoy architectural photography. I’m here to support your success and always open to feedback or resources you’d like to bring into your sessions. I check messages regularly - feel free to reach out with questions or to book your first lesson.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I'm a structural engineer with a strong background in math, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. I use these skills daily in my work and have experience helping students prepare for standardized tests like the ACT. I focus on clear explanations, step-by-step problem solving, and building confidence with test strategies.
Architecture

Architecture

I am an engineer working in residential wood-framed construction, where I regularly apply architectural and structural principles. My background includes creating house plans, reviewing layouts, and coordinating design details across disciplines. I also have a strong foundation in CAD and drafting tools, which I use to produce accurate architectural documentation.
AutoCAD

AutoCAD

Structural engineer with 8 years of experience using AutoCAD in both professional and academic settings. My work primarily focuses on residential house plans, but I also use AutoCAD broadly for various engineering, design, and personal projects. I've also taught AutoCAD as a TA at the University of South Florida, where I supported students through workshops and one-on-one help.
Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

I work as an engineer in residential wood-framed construction, where I apply civil and structural engineering principles on a daily basis. My experience includes reviewing and creating plans, interpreting building codes, and coordinating design details with construction requirements. I also bring a strong background in CAD and technical documentation, which I use to produce construction documents.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering and previously worked in the defense industry as an engineer, where I worked on armaments and artillery projects. My experience includes developing and refining complex systems, interpreting technical standards, and solving real-world engineering challenges. I also have a strong foundation in CAD and modeling software, which use to produce accurate technical designs and documentation.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I'm a structural engineer who uses Excel every day on real projects (models, QA checks, and dashboards). I'm fluent with core formulas and logic, tables/lookups, pivots/ charts, and cleaning/organizing messy data, and I've taught these skills to students and coworkers. My approach is hands-on: we work from your file or prompt, keep the workflow clear and repeatable, and I share practical shortcuts so you can run it solo next time.
Photography

Photography

I have experience in real estate photography, where I focus on capturing both interiors and exteriors with professional editing techniques. Beyond real estate, I also dabble in portrait photography, landscape photography, and other creative styles. My background includes HDR blending, lighting, and post-processing to create polished results across different types of photography.
Physics

Physics

I'm a mechanical engineer with a background in physics and math. I use these subjects daily in my work and enjoy helping students see how the ideas fit together. I've tutored AP Physics, introductory engineering courses, and math up through calculus and differential equations. When we work together, I'll focus on breaking problems down into simple, clear steps and making sure the reasoning makes sense - not just getting the right answer. I like to use quick sketches or real-world examples to make abstract topics feel more concrete. My goal is to build confidence and help you feel like physics and math are things you can handle.
Revit

Revit

Structural engineer with 4 years of experience using Revit in both professional engineering and architectural projects, as well as personal interior design work. I've modeled residential wood-framed structures, created construction documents, and developed BIM models to support permitting and construction. I also work on furniture layouts and interior space planning for both residential and commercial projects.
Solidworks

Solidworks

I have 4 years of SolidWorks experience in both professional and academic settings. Professionally, I worked in the defense industry creating detailed engineering models and drawings for missiles and defense systems. I also taught SolidWorks as a TA at the University of South Florida, where I held workshops and supported students in person and online

Incredible tutor with methodical approach!!

Charles has been a complete lifesaver for me. He is incredibly knowledgeable and teaches how to correctly navigate autoCAD. If you need a calm and professional tutor to teach you how to approach a project or plan, (whether you have experience with CAD or not) Charles is wonderful!!
