Bio

I’m a bright, fun, 25-year-old high school AP biology teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (minor in Chemistry) and a Master’s degree in Secondary Education. I currently teach Honors Anatomy and Physiology and Integrated Science as well as AP Biology, and enjoy working alongside many different ages and learning levels.

Everyone’s different, so how can we expect everyone to learn the same way? While we’re working together, we’ll try lots of different styles until we find the best techniques for just you.

Genetics

I have a bachelor's degree in Biology, and took several high-level classes that contributed to my well-rounded knowledge in the field of genetics including Genetics, Enzymology, and Medical Ethics. The subject of Genetics is my personal favorite to teach as well as research on my own, and I thoroughly cover many aspects to the topic in my current Anatomy & Physiology Honors, Integrated Science, Biology, and AP Biology classes at Ida Baker High School in Cape Coral, FL. I have developed fun examples and techniques to make it easier to understand some of the harder-to-grasp concepts in genetics such as Chi squares, Non-Mendelian genetics, PCR, and sex-linked traits, as well as rudimentary concepts like mitosis, meiosis, and geno/phenotypes. I also love showing students how relevant learning about genetics is - and it's not hard to do, with discussions appearing regularly in the news about biotechnology, genetic engineering, genetically modified foods, and in vitro fertility treatments.

I participated in a national speech and debate league for 5 years in middle and high school, earning numerous titles and awards for various speeches, including Original Oratory, Expository, Dramatic Interpretation, Persuasive, and Impromptu speaking. I began when I was 14 and qualified for the National level 3 times and the State level 5 times. I have coached many beginner and intermediate speech/debate learners for several years, and am well versed in logical arguments and techniques to ease the nervousness of new speakers. I am a high school teacher whose job is to get up in front of students for 7 hours a day and I love it!

"Awesome" according to my son.

If you are looking for a biology/chemistry tutor, Crystal is absolutely invaluable. As a younger high school teacher she seems to really relate to students very well and realizes that not every student learns in the same way. She seems incredibly patient and provides tools that enable the student to make a direct connection with the subject matter (word "hints", charts, etc.). Even though she teaches full time, Crystal is incredibly flexible with her schedule. My 16 year old son, after working with Crystal one time, summed up his learning experience with her as "awesome". Bright, patient & flexible.
