I help them not from a place of being better than them, but because I was there too. I struggled with mathematics during my high school and college years and so I understand what it means to struggle.

Therefore, I make it as clear and simple as possible - teaching them the important basic study skills and concepts so that they can do really well in the future.

ACT Math

ACT Math

For the ACT Math, there are 60 questions in 60 minutes. That's fast. First off we work on building up the student's knowledge bank. We find out what the student is weak in and I provide examples and practice problems for those areas. Secondly, we work on test strategies - in other words, how to beat the test like it is a game. Student work on time management, guessing and problem solving strategies, and simple things like what to take with you and what to eat before a test.
Algebra 1

I have a degree in mathematics and teaching mathematics. I've been teaching and tutoring math for over 20 years. I taught Algebra 1 as a high school teacher. Through tutoring sessions, I work with students to gain confidence, expertise, and long-term math skills.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the most topic-packed course in High School. To make sense of it we improve our understanding in Algebra 1, bring in Geometry and Trigonometry concepts, and build off of parent functions. By getting the student caught up previewing the material before class time, I am able to help students make great gains so that students are back on track.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Elementary math is full of fun and games. We participate in activities that will help the student learn math, but have fun at the same time. There are many real life examples that involve math and the student can develop a hands on approach to mathematics that will lay their foundation for the later years. We also work through challenge questions to teach students perseverance and problem solving strategies. These methods are "Common Core" style so the students will be well prepared. All students are encouraged to participate in math competitions that are fun and rewarding.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught Geometry for three years in the schools. I worked with many students one on one to tutor them in Geometry concepts. Some of the areas I focus on include: helping students to better understand the way that Algebra ties into Geometry, the visual concepts of Geometry and the definitions. My methods include helping students by asking them questions, showing them examples, outlining notes, providing additional practice problems, and encouraging them to do their best.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have prepared students for the necessary concepts in Algebra for many years. When they need extra support, I bridge the gap by reteaching PreAlgebra concepts, providing supplemental materials and making sure that they feel confident that they can proceed to the next level.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have been helping students improve in Pre-Calculus at both the college and high school level, regular and honors. We look at shortcuts, review foundational algebra, draw memory aids, and practice for success. There are many ways to help make sense of the confusion and set up success in future math courses, like Calculus.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have been trained in teaching SAT math with a national test prep company. I prepare students through test strategies and also reteach math principles.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Learning Trigonometry is about finding a system that works and executing it. There is a method to the madness. We work on using a simple method to solve problems and bridge the gap back to that method even when problems change. That way there is less to memorize and more success!
