Efficient, reliable, knowledgeable AP Chem tutor

We found Erin when my daughter had a high school AP Chemistry class and a teacher with a style that didn’t work for her at all. Instead of lecturing, the teacher left the students to learn on their own and just come to him with questions, so we needed a tutor who could both present the material and also help reinforce skills through practice. When you search for an AP Chem teacher on Wyzant, you get tons of promising responses, and I’m just glad that we happened to find Erin among them. She was wonderful at all the things that my daughter needed. She was able to present material for any unit — with her own slides, ready to go — provide practice questions to work on outside of the tutoring session, talk through challenging problems and concepts, and offer lots of suggestions for taking the AP exam itself. She seems very knowledgable about chemistry in general and about the kinds of problems that are on the AP test in particular. Erin is also very easy to work with. She’s extremely responsive and reliable. My daughter met with her once or sometimes twice a week for about a semester, and they always made very efficient use of their hour together. Even though our schedule changed from week to week, Erin was flexible and we were always able to find days that worked, even occasionally at short notice. The best part of working with her is that I’ve seen my daughter — always a good student but losing confidence in the early part of this class — regain her footing and, amazingly, retain her interest in chemistry, despite the tough class.

Erin is working through AP Chem as a refresher for my son who had it junior year and did well and who now will be placed into an advanced chemistry track at college in the fall. He is finding Erin's sessions to be super helpful. They are making great progress working through chapters and reviewing Ryan's homework. Erin went through worksheets on molar mass calculations and mole conversions. She worked with my daughter on converting between grams to moles and moles to grams as well as efficiently calculating the molar mass of elements and compounds. Once my daughter observed how to do the problem, she was able to do these mostly on her own with very little guidance. She did really well with following the steps that Erin showed her, as well as rounding her answers to proper sig figs. After guidance from Erin, my daughter was surprised at how well she was understanding the content. Erin is very patient and kind and my daughter liked her method of teaching and was really excited about learning from Erin, after other failed attempts from other tutors.
