Bio

I have been tutoring students for over thirty years. I completed my doctoral degree in education in September of 2021. After living in Puerto Rico for 14 years and having traveled to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, I moved to the United States. Since we left America when I was three years old, Spanish and English both became native languages for me. While living in Puerto Rico, I tutored a taught at the American Military Academy.

I moved to America in 1981, at the age of twenty. I tutored college students while attending David Lipscomb University. In the years that followed, I taught and tutored for the Bedford County Adult Education Department. I also tutored private students. Since 2009, I have completed a Bachelor's degree as well as a Master's degree in Education. I would like the opportunity to help you with your studies. Our first meet and greet will be free of charge. I require a two-hour cancellation notice and will be happy to reschedule our time when a conflict arises.

I have years of experience teaching and tutoring Spanish, ESL, Math, Science, English grammar, reading, writing, and pronunciation. I will work diligently with you to ensure that your conversational skills are improved and will tailor our time to meet your specific needs.

Living in Spanish-speaking countries for the majority of my childhood has had language fluency as a reward. I attended elementary and middle school in the public schools on the island, as well as the Universidad Interamericana. In the years since, I have worked with groups and individuals who had as a goal to speak Spanish.

Please allow me the opportunity to help you with your learning needs, whatever they may be. I will work diligently to be prepared for our sessions and provide you with an individualized learning atmosphere most beneficial to your specific needs whether in person or online. I have worked with a wide range of student challenges, from the extremely bright and wound tight, to the very calm and silent learner.

I attended David Lipscomb University, a private Christian University, was a missionary's daughter for 21 years, and a preacher's wife for 31 years. I have taught Bible lessons to children and adults in both English and Spanish. I believe in teaching what is in the Bible and no more, no less.

I worked for ten years as a business manager with over a hundred employees, my duties included counseling the employees in an effort to help them attain the necessary skills for future advancement. I diligently assisted them in locating the learning programs necessary for their aspirations. Job placement, learning opportunities, payroll, and employee development were all components of my job.

For years, I attended different colleges in the US and Puerto Rico as we moved about. In 2008. I decided to complete my degree online, obtaining a BS in 2011, and Master's in 2013 and will have completed my PhD before the end of 2017. The experiences have given me an insight into the complexities of college degrees.

I have been tutoring college students since 1982. I have been teaching English to adults since 1989. I am currently in the final stages of my PhD in Education at NorthCentral University. Working in the library works well for me.

I lived first in Aruba for three years and then in Puerto Rico for fifteen years, attending school and college on the island. Upon returning to the U.S. I began working with the Adult Education Department, teaching ESL as well as Spanish and have continued to work in that capacity while living in various places. In 2008, I returned to school and have since earned a BS, a Master's, and am in the final stages of a PhD in Education. I have two preschool grandchildren that live with me 50% of the time and do not plan to teach at a university full time until they are in school.

Handwriting does not receive the necessary attention in school nor do the teachers have the time to provide individualized time with each student.

I have one son who was injured his senior year and completed his high school diploma. My daughter became a homeschooler in third grade and completed her high school diploma in 2013. During the last 35 years, I have worked with home school groups, tutoring and teaching various classes.

I lived in Puerto Rico for fifteen years and attended primary and secondary school during those years. I have taught Spanish and served as a translator for the last 35 years. I have a BS and Master's in education and am in the final stages of a PhD in Education as well. The next step will be a BS in Spanish.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Teaching vocabulary is an essential task when teaching any language and it is something I have been teaching for over 30 years. Last year, we held a spelling bee for the online students and it was so much fun that we will repeat the competition this August. The students love to compete and in the process, they learn new words, how to spell them, what they mean, and how to use them.

Since 2009, I have completed hundreds of college papers that including extensive research. Currently, I am in the final stages of a PhD in Education, after a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, with a minor in Education, and a Master's degree in Education.
