Bio

Reading Is essential to all ages and walks of life. I have had multifaceted training. I am a certified Orton Gillingham dyslexia specialist. I use many modes of teaching that are combined to teach and rely heavily on phonics for reading. I am joining the work force again after devoting 12 years to raising money for the center for Research in Medical Education at The University of Miami/Miller School of medicine. Reading Is essential to all ages and walks of life. I have had multifaceted training. I am a certified Orton Gillingham dyslexia specialist. I use many modes of teaching that are combined to teach and rely heavily on phonics for reading. I am joining the work force again after devoting 12 years to raising money for the center for Research in Medical Education at The University of Miami/Miller School of medicine. My skills are many and my ability to be creative to reach younger and older minds. I have taught functioning illiterate adults, and young children. As well I have worked with holders of advanced degrees and MDs of other nationalities to help prepare prepare them in presentations of their research papers in English. I had my own educational counseling service in Newton Mass. and am well prepared to assist students prepare their essays for applications. It feels creative and a personally rewarding to help others to communicate regardless of the level. I look forward to meeting new students. I am available to do short term work on essays and college applications for the summer. Short or long term help availability.

I am happy to state that my experience with college placement and essay writing was solidified by almost 8 years running my own business. The name was College Quest in the Newton area of Massachusetts. I did placements for special education students and for high school students who needed guidance in choosing a college. I assisted them in the interview process including taking some on interviews when family members were unavailable. The best part was helping the students represent themselves and meet their goals in their essays and aiding them to refine these presentations. It was a rewarding part of my my career when their acceptances arrived. I feel capable and professional to help students accomplish this important juncture in their lives.

I am certified in the Orto-Gillingham method by Mass Genreral Hospital to tutor dyslexia. I trained there for a year. I have worked privately as a tutor after that training. I had years of teaching reading to children and adults with a variety of learning differences. Dylexia and disgraphia, and add are often in the situation. Its a challange I enjoy..I choose to tutor in my own home unless the work is within 5 miles of my home.

I feel qualified to tutor sat reading as it implies that you can successfully tutor comprehension, relating sequential ideas and answer questions in a clear written manner. I can help students break down reading matter into subject matter and express their understanding of the text. as a result we can move on to them relaying their ideas in an articulate written form.

Special Needs

I have had years of experience with children and teenagers with low attention span, levels of dyslexia, handwriting difficulties, forms of cerebral palsy, and mild autism. It is my job and hope to find a way to get them to interact and learn in order to be able to read with comprehension and write to the best of their ability. Its not an easy or uncomplicated process but patience and certain skill sets make it doable in most instances.

My original training was in reading writing and speech. I could not teach proper reading and writing if I did not speak properly. I was trained in a part of the Massachusetts General Language Disorder Unit where speech and enunciation was important. I have assisted doctoral candidates and doctors whose native language was not English. They had papers that needed to be cleaned up and pronunciation that had to be refined for their written and oral presentations. They were happy to have the assistance and me to make their acquaintance. I know that I can help correct speech and accent differences to make for clarity in English.

I have held many positions and had interesting experiences that lead me to believe that I would be useful and successful as a writing coach. I have had my own placement service helping students and their families choose the proper schools or colleges to strive for entrance. I have helped candidates compose their own essays and state the reasons why they are appropriate candidates for that school. I was able to them articulate their special interests and goals. I have done extensive work in writing and speaking for community based groups raising funds for the University of Miami Miller Medical School of Medicine and the Center for Education in Medical Research.
