Hi! I’m Cassandra, a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. I have several years of experience tutoring students across a variety of ages and subjects, both in-person and virtually.
I first gained tutoring experience working with 2nd grade students in a classroom setting during COVID and again during summer 2023. Many of the students I worked with during this time were English-language learners (ESL), which taught me the importance of adapting my communication and teaching strategies to meet each student’s individual needs, learning style, and level of understanding. I worked with students on foundational reading, writing, English, and math skills while providing patient, encouraging support.
I also worked as a tutor with LearnIt Together, a non profit that provides free tutoring services to students across the country. This experience allowed me to develop strategies for effectively teaching and engaging students in an online environment, which became somewhat standardized post-COVID. I tutored elementary students in math and English, as well as high school students in English and writing. I helped students edit and strengthen essays, develop outlines, brainstorm ideas, organize their thoughts, and build creativity in projects.
I also bring a strong academic background to my tutoring. I earned a 35 in ACT English/Writing and a 33 in ACT Reading, and I am happy to help students prepare for these sections as well.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized. I adapt each session to the student’s age, learning style, and goals, with the goal of not only helping students complete their work, but also building the skills and confidence they need to become more independent learners.
