The Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education degrees that I received from the State University College at Cortland, New York has served me well in teaching at the high school and college level. Both of the degrees involved a specialization in Secondary Mathematics. Currently, I have certification to teach Math in the states of Florida and New York. Since moving to Florida in 1999, at different times I have taught classes from Developmental Math through Calculus 1. I have taught at International Community School, and International Academy of Design and Technology and tutored at Huntington Learning Center.
Smaller classes and tutoring have been successful for me. Over the past ten years, administrators have remarked that I have developed a manner of explaining concepts, or breaking down Math skills into smaller parts that make them easier to understand. When tutoring, I will usually show a student how to do a homework problem or quiz or test question, breaking it into any smaller problem; then have the student try a problem on their own.
I've found that patience and encouragement of students to practice is a large part of being an effective teacher or tutor, even though if a student is poor in Math, practice is usually something they don't want to do.

Helped me master many of my weak spots with math and helped me figured out stuff in which I needed to work on, thank you Malcom!
Malcolm was providing tutoring around statistics. He was great to relate to, easy going and genuinely interested in my success. It was a pleasure connecting with him.
Malcolm was able to explain the content in a way that I could understand. He re- explained concepts to me in a way that I actually understood the statistics concept.
I am taking precalc online at the University of Florida this summer, and Malcolm has helped me so much. Malcolm has the best price and is extremely flexible with his schedule. He is incredibly reliable, and helps no matter what time of day it is. I can send Malcolm an email of any question that i don't understand, and he responds within one or two hours, without any prior notice from me. Malcolm is able to answer any complicated problem I have without hesitation, and explains everything clearly and cohesively. Malcolm has helped me improve my grade from an 82 to and 88 with only two lessons (1 hour session and 1 half-hour session). I would recommend Malcolm to any struggling math student that needs help fast. Malcolm is the guy for it.
He is always prompt and has even brought extra textbooks to help practice the areas of concern. He is very flexible in scheduling even when needed last minute!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
