I spent 7 years at the Oxford Learning Center tutoring students in all subject areas, helping them with study skills and preparing students for the SATs. My teaching style vary depending upon the student that I am teaching. Each lesson is geared toward the learning styles of my student and aimed at increasing his/her ability to learn on their own in a variety of environments.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am a Delaware and Pennsylvania certified Math teacher who has taught in high school and in college for 15 years. I have been a tutor for students in Algebra 1 for the last 7 years. I understand the difficulties that can be associated with mastering the subject.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 can get complicated for a multitude of reasons, most of which are easily solved by a few simple practices. I have taught an tutored students in Algebra for over 10 years and am a certified math teacher. I explain it all simply so that students understand.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus can be a difficult topic at first. Like most math classes it has a few elementary parts that once grasped lend incite to the rest of the topic. Knowing what a derivative means and how an integral is used are just two of the basic elements. Understanding Calculus lead Newton into greater understanding of Physics and which has lead us to many other places as well.
Chemistry

Chemistry

Chemistry is all about the Periodic Table. Every atom has its own properties and interactions that make it unique. To understand and do well in Chemistry takes a feeling of comfort with the table and exactly what those elements can do. Teaching Chemistry has always been a wonderful experience for me and I want to share the wonders of Chemistry with you.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a foundation class in which so many skills are gained. These skills such as logic, reasoning and spacial geometry are useful not only in future math classes, but in many different careers. Logic and reasoning are used in science, computer programming, medicine, and so many others; while spacial reasoning is used in interior design, architecture and landscaping. Grasping Geometry can be a very important part of a student's future.
Physics

Physics

Physics is the best and most challenging course that a high school student can take. It not only involves learning about a science which is integrated into every part of our daily lives, whether we are aware of it or not, but it also involves utilizing math and English skills taught over many years because not only do Physicists compute quantities, they explain them as well. It is the only class in high school that really merges separate skills to tackle a single task. It makes you think.
Praxis

Praxis

I am a Delaware-certified math teacher who took the Praxis I exam with scores in all areas of 97%. I have also taken the Praxis II exams in Mathematics and Physics receiving passing scores in each. I prepare students to take similar exam such as the ACT and SAT. Many of the techniques are the same as well as the knowledge preparation. With the right tools at your fingertips the test is easily overcome.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the basis for so much. Every child need to have a good foundation in it. It not only set the stage for math success in Algebra, Geometry and Precalculus, but it also is helpful with success on the SAT and ACT. The basic skills learned in Prealgebra start the pathway that leads students through high school and into college.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus is that last step in the Algebraic sequence of math taken at the high school level. It takes all the skills learned in Algebra 1&2 to a much deeper level, while at the same time advances several concepts begun in Geometry. The goal of Precalculus is to prepare students for Calculus by exposing them to a variety of graphs and functions which will be used or seen in higher level math. It is a great deal of fun, especially if you like puzzles.
SAT Math

SAT Math

SAT math is all about the logic, not just the problems. Mostly the problems on the SAT are designed to trick you into thinking the wrong way about it and conclude the wrong answer. Strategies can be used to help even the best math student do better and work faster to get more of the answers correct. Practice is the key and I have a great deal to offer.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

The SAT reading can be a challenge for many students. For the most part the reading passages are intimidating because the student doesn't know what the topics will be. Being interested in what you read is a great deal more important than most people think, but using proven strategies even the most disinterested reader can do well. The other challenge that goes beyond even the reading section, is vocabulary. Vocabulary isn't taught as much as it used to be and students are at a disadvantage because of this. I teach the vocabulary and vocabulary skills needed to aid my students throughout the test. With practice and preparation all students can do well.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Being ready for school is often a challenge, especially when a student goes to the next level. Being organized and managing time can often be the hard for students facing today's school environment. Not being able to find the right material or the time that you need to complete an assignment leads to greater frustration. Guiding students to become more focused on their work helps them a great deal, but often this is just a start. Students may not know how to study for tests because they never had to do it before or they don't understand how to get the most out of what they read for class. One of the techniques that I utilize is called SQ3R. It helps students study as well as retain information that they read or learn about in class. Learning is all about the connections that we make in our brain and how we make them. The better that we can connect the information the easier it will be to get better grades. Your child's learning style is important to his/her growth in the educational environment. Knowing his/her strengths and weaknesses will aid him/her in developing strategies to cope with and to overcome his/her learning difficulties. Learning can be fun and easy as long as you have the right tools

A tutor with a love to teach

He teaches math with enthusiasm! My children are so very happy to be taught by David. A tutor may have the knowledge of a subject but that does not mean they can Teach. David clearly excels in both areas.

David was extremely knowledgeable and was able to totally engage and motivate my normally unmotivated child. He knew just what to do.

He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He made the effort to connect with my son and make it a positive experience . My son even asked for him to help review for his physics mid term which was great!

Skilled, knowledgeable and patient tutor

We are very happy to have made contact with David and wish we had began sooner. My daughter struggles a bit in Math and Physics and I appreciate that David is patient with her and expertly explains the material in a way that she can receive and understand it. I also love the constructive feedback he gives which is important in building confidence in her abilities which she also lacks.

Sydni, 33 lessons with David
