Bio

I am an experienced, knowledgeable Tutor with a Master's Degree in Biology, and I have completed coursework towards a PhD. I have been tutoring and teaching college, high school, and school age students in all areas of Science, Math, Statistics, Test Preparation, and English and Writing (I have had a number of articles and photographs published) for more than 20 years. I am an experienced, knowledgeable Tutor with a Master's Degree in Biology, and I have completed coursework towards a PhD. I have been tutoring and teaching college, high school, and school age students in all areas of Science, Math, Statistics, Test Preparation, and English and Writing (I have had a number of articles and photographs published) for more than 20 years. I also have experience with Special Needs Students, and I am happy to offer Online Tutoring, as well as Homeschooling, Cyber School, and Enrichment/Independent Studies Assistance.

I began as a "Peer Tutor" in High School, tutoring Math and Chemistry. I continued tutoring in all areas of Math, Science, Chemistry, Biology and Biological Sciences, Statistics, and Writing, as well as student advising throughout College and Graduate School. During that time, I also interned in Zoo Education, Zoo and Wildlife Research, and began teaching at the College level and in After-School Enrichment Programs. Since then I have taught at several Colleges and Universities, Zoos, Museums of Natural History, and taught and tutored school-age, middle school, high school, college, and graduate school students.

I have an enabling and empowering teaching philosophy, and I enjoy being able to help students to learn the subjects that I teach and to help them to develop their critical reasoning abilities, creative skills, study skills, and thinking skills. Essentially, I try to teach them how to think, learn, reason, and to realize their full potentials.

I thoroughly enjoy sciences and the discovery and excitement they can offer. I also enjoy helping others to learn about science and helping them get through the rough spots in the learning process. Learning Science can and should be fun!

I am a dedicated, patient, and understanding tutor and instructor. I have helped a wide variety of students of various ages and backgrounds to learn and become better, more independent thinkers and learners. Let’s see what we can do working together!

Since then, I have been consistently tutoring Precalculus, Calculus, and other areas of Mathematics, for over 20 years. I have also successfully completed high school and college courses in Calculus, and continually apply what I have learned to my teaching and tutoring practices. I also enjoy continually updating my knowledge and problem-solving skills with the latest techniques and technologies to share with my students.

I have enjoyed writing since an early age and have always sought to help others with theirs, and I have had a number of articles, papers, and photographs published. I have written many essays (including those for college and graduate school applications), research papers, term papers, and other writing assignments including short stories and poems. I have also helped others write better and more effectively and proofread and edited their writing to help present what they have written and help them to get better grades on papers and writing assignments and improved the effectiveness of their application essays. Most of my past students have enjoyed seeing their grades improve dramatically.

I have completed a B.S. in Animal Science & Natural Resources Management and a Master's Degree in Biology, as well as PhD coursework in Ecology and Evolution. I also have a number of years of experience conducting research in Zoology with the Bronx Zoo & Wildlife Conservation Society. The projects I worked on also included collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. I have studied and taught about mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects in zoo, museum, and college settings.

Excellent Algebra 2 Tutor

Martin helped my son prepare for his Algebra 2 final exam. He helped him for several sessions for a few weeks before his exam and he felt so confident before taking the exam. He is patient, kind, and knowledgeable.

Martin is an excellent tutor. He is very patient and explained my daughter’s biology assignment to her in a way that she really understood. She has learning differences and Martin is so good at clearly explaining concepts in a patient way and making sure it is understood. A tutor of this caliber is hard to find. He is a gifted tutor and we will definitely request him again!
