Hello! I am excited about the opportunity to help students grow academically while also building confidence, motivation, and stronger problem-solving skills. I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2000 with a B.S. in Physical Oceanography and a minor in Mathematics. I served as a Surface Warfare Officer and later as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer. I also hold master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction from Wilmington University and am Delaware-certified to teach middle and high school Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Integrated Science.
I have more than 20 years of high school teaching experience, beginning with Chemistry and Oceanography in Monterey, California, and continuing throughout Delaware. I currently teach CP Physics, Honors Physics, AP Physics 1, Engineering Design, and Marine Science. Over my career, I have also taught chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering, and even developed an underwater robotics course. I have worked with students of many ability levels in classroom, small-group, and individual settings, helping them strengthen conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, study habits, and confidence.
My tutoring approach is flexible and built around the individual student. I emphasize understanding why something works rather than simply memorizing formulas or procedures. I use diagrams, real-world examples, guided questioning, and proven problem-solving strategies to make difficult concepts more understandable. Physics is especially meaningful to me because it helps explain how the world and universe work, and I enjoy connecting it to real experiences such as rock climbing, skiing, biking, boating, engineering, and the outdoors. My goal is to help students succeed in the immediate challenge while becoming more confident, independent thinkers along the way.
