Hi, I’m Ryan, a veteran English Language Arts educator with over 7 years of classroom experience. I specialize in high-impact, student-centered projects that build confidence and mastery in reading and writing.
I love creative projects and getting students interested in reading and writing in their own personal passion areas (like comic books or manga). I then use those materials as a resource for learning growth and independent practice.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Delaware and have served as a Lead ELA Teacher and Head of ELA in public schools, where I designed curriculum, coached fellow teachers, and supported students across diverse ability levels. My experience spans grades 6–12, and I’ve helped students succeed in everything from foundational reading skills to AP Literature, Gothic Literature, college essays, and everything in between.
I am currently enrolled in a MSEd Master's program in Learning Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Pennsylvania. I am extremely passionate about engaging students with technical tools and applying digital learning techniques.
In my tutoring, I blend structured skill-building with individualized support. Whether we’re refining a thesis statement, unpacking a complex text, or preparing for the SAT. My approach is rooted in clear modeling, student voice, and revision-based growth. I am extremely positive and encouraging. Learning is about failure. I’ve worked in both one-on-one and small group formats and am skilled in meeting IEP/504 accommodations.
I have experience with:
Academic writing, creative writing, literary analysis
AP English, essay coaching, and SAT/ACT prep
College admissions essays (narrative structure, voice, editing)
Executive functioning coaching: organization, task breakdown, and accountability
I believe great teaching is built on relationships. My sessions are both rigorous and affirming. students with stronger skills, and hopefully a stronger self-view of themselves as a learner.
