Friendly, trustworthy, outgoing, creative, organized, passionate about teaching, and experienced for 16 years...that's me!
I am a certified world language - Chinese teacher K-12 in Delaware. I am a native Chinese Mandarin speaker of course, because I was born in China and spent a major part of my life there. I attended Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics in Wuhan, China, and earned my bachelor's degree in Economics Information Management. I had worked as a journalist for a magazine in Wuhan Academy of Social Sciences for five years in China before I came to the U.S. I have been actively involved in teaching Chinese language and culture for about 16 years. I was a Chinese teacher in public schools from 2009 to 2011. I am currently working at a Christian school and teaching Chinese language at Chunhui Chinese school in Hockessin, Delaware.
It has always been my passion to teach Chinese language and culture in a fun and interesting way. My philosophy of teaching is to create a learning environment that suits the student's need; to provide lesson plans that encourage students to become interested. I would also like to give my students a free consultation of their desirable lesson plans at our first meeting and work together for the best result. Friendly, trustworthy, outgoing, creative, organized, passionate about teaching, and experienced for 16 years...that's me!

As a college student passionate about foreign languages, I've seen more than my share of professors and tutors. Many people who teach foreign languages, especially native speakers, are better at speaking their language than teaching it. Not so with Helen - she brings a warmth and sense of humor to the experience that really let's students explore and enjoy the language. So much of my time with Helen is spent laughing that I can hardly believe how much I retain, but the results are there. Her customizable lesson plans let me move at my own pace (I don't feel babied or patronized, only supported) and her knowledge of Chinese goes beyond native familiarity - She obviously has a real appreciation of the language and of its potential for enriching her students' lives in learning such an ancient, elegant way of communicating. I couldn't be happier that I began taking Chinese lessons with Helen. She's rekindled my love of the language and no matter how many times I butcher the 'r' sound, she always has a smile on her face!
My daughter entered a Chinese immersion program late and we wanted to get her some support to be as successful as possible. Enter Helen! :-) Helen has been wonderful with my daughter. She went out of her way to make her feel comfortable beginning with the consultation. During the first session, she was prompt and had activities ready for my daughter to complete. I am quite satisfied with the support she has shown my her thus far and I'm excited to see my child's progression throughout the tutoring process!
Helen is doing a wonderful job tutoring my daughter. My daughter has improved her confidence and is very enthusiastic about learning a new language.
Really enjoyed my lesson with Helen. She did a great job helping me review my lessons and gave me some fantastic new vocab that I was able to put to use right away, Highly recommend for both beginner and advanced Chinese students.
Helen has been a Mandarin tutor for our daughter this year. She has been very helpful and encouraging, always patient and eager to assist. Our daughter has definitely benefited as a result. We'd gladly recommend Helen to others considering some 1:1 instruction.
My son was not excited about going to see a tutor but after spending an hour with her I called to follow up and he wanted to stay for the additional hour to make sure that he understood everything. She was a pleasure to work with.
Helen has been great for my son taking Mandarin I. Whether it's her style of teaching or just the additional practice that he receives during their sessions, we've already seen a significant improvement in just a couple weeks. I only wish we had found her sooner.
Helen has been working with our child for months and his grasp and understanding has grown leaps and bounds in that time. I appreciate Helen's scheduling flexibility and partnership in helping our son!
I am so glad we found Helen through WyzAnt, she is the perfect tutor. She is very friendly but serious about teaching. When you pay someone by the hour you want to get the most for your money. We are definitely getting our money's worth. My daughter has learned so much in only 3 lessons. Helen is so enthusiastic and it really motivates my daughter. Whenever she comes back from a session she says, "I just love Helen!" I would recommend Helen to anyone who is interested in learning Chinese. She is awesome!
Both of our sons, ages 13 and 10, are taking Chinese lessons with Helen and are enjoying it very much. She brings a lot of energy and keeps them interested and engaged. We are very happy with her approach and it is a great experience for them.
Ms. Helen is a wonderful person. I have watched her tutor my daughter. Ms. Helen is caring, friendly, and supportive. My daughter has learned so much since Helen has been teaching my daughter new ways to understand the Chinese language. she has done well on school test, homework, and essays. Thank You!
We had Helen come out to our house a few times to give us some exposure to conversational Chinese for our upcoming move to Singapore. She is absolutely delightful - kind, enthusiastic and patient. We were immediately comfortable and our young children (ages 6 and 8) were engaged and excited to learn! We are very thankful we found Helen and highly recommend her to all ages looking to learn Chinese!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
