Bio

I'm Daniel — an engineer and applied mathematician (BS, Brown; MA, Yale) with a decade of experience working with students from middle school through graduate level.

I run a small, intentional practice. Families that choose to work with me want an academic partner who understands the full picture and can be trusted to handle it. I've helped students turn their grades around, earn 5s on AP exams, and succeed on the SAT to get into schools like Brown, Williams, and Emory.

My roster stays small by design. That means direct access, genuine engagement, and a tutor who actually knows your student.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Math from Brown University, and I bring over 7 years of tutoring experience to our lessons. A firm mastery of high school math skills has been key to my personal success in later coursework and in my career. I personally scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT and earn an 800 on the SAT Math Subject Test. Additionally, I am familiar with the ACT problem style and how the two tests differ. As a tutor, I have had the opportunity to help multiple students improve their math skills for college admissions tests, and I believe that you can too!
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, and I bring over 7 years of tutoring experience to our lessons. I have helped students of many ages and stages succeed in Algebra, and I believe that you can too. To give just one example, I had an Algebra student who joined my studio with test scores in the "C"-range, struggling with topics like systems of equations, functions, and transformations. We targeted confusing concepts until, on her year-end test, she earned an "A"! My teaching style isn't encapsulated by a single "school", "method", or buzzword. I'll work with you to develop a battle plan so that you can achieve your best, whatever your circumstances!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I hold a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Engineering from Brown, and I've spent over a decade helping students build the foundational skills upon which calculus, physics, and standardized tests all depend. I've seen firsthand how much a strong grasp of algebra and precalculus shapes a student's trajectory in STEM. One student came to me with B-range test scores, struggling with systems of equations, functions, and transformations. After working through those areas together, she earned an A on her year-end exam. What you learn here compounds into the future, and I'll make sure you have it confidently under your belt.
Calculus

Calculus

I hold an M.A. from Yale and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering & Applied Mathematics from Brown University. I've spent over a decade teaching calculus: limits, derivatives, integrals, series, 3D vector calc, and beyond. I received a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam and have used the subject extensively in my academic work, so I can connect the material to wherever you'd like to apply it. One student came to me after enrolling in Calculus for the second time. We worked through volume integrals and the concepts that had challenged her; she went on to earn A's on several tests and passed the course with ease. Whether you're catching up, keeping up, or aiming for a 5 on the AP exam, my goal is to make the material confidently clear.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Brown University. I am also an incoming graduate student at Yale University in Statistics & Data Science. After years of acceptance letters (and rejection letters), I want to turn my experience into wisdom for students who are going through this process today. The field of college admissions has changed rapidly, and applicant strategy continues to do so too. I have helped students—at the college and post-graduate levels—curate their materials and polish their written statements to put forward the strongest version of themselves, and I aim to help you do the same.
Computer Science

Computer Science

Currently a graduate student of machine learning at Yale, I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, and I bring over 7 years of tutoring experience to our lessons. I have helped students of various ages and stages succeed in computer science, and I believe that you can too. Younger students entering my studio have been able to improve their test scores on concepts like Turing machines, conditional logic, etc. At the more advanced levels, I have also helped post-graduate degree candidates to perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), brainstorm neural network architectures, and communicate their ideas with confidence. My teaching style isn't encapsulated by a single "school", "method", or buzzword. I'll work with you to develop a battle plan so that you can achieve your best, whatever your circumstances!
Data Science

Data Science

I am currently an M.S. candidate in Statistics and Data Science at Yale University, and I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, and I bring over 7 years of tutoring experience to our lessons. I have helped students of various ages and stages succeed in data science, and I believe that you can too. Younger students entering my studio have been able to improve their test scores on concepts like probability, distributions, measures of central tendency, etc.
Flute

Flute

I am a graduate of Brown University, where alongside my studies of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics, I was very active in music performance. Prior to university, I attended a top pre-conservatory program and studied under Judith Mendenhall of the Mannes School of Music. Additionally, I have appeared in masterclasses with faculty of The Juilliard School and world-renowned professors of flute performance. Prior to college, I was a prize-winner in multiple competitions, both regional and international. I played 1st Flute in the NJ All-State Orchestra as well as 1st Flute in the NJ All-State Wind Ensemble. In 2015, I played 2nd Flute in the NAfME All-National Symphony Orchestra. It is my belief that playing the flute is quite an athletically involved experience! I place an emphasis on the subtle muscular details that go into flute technique but that sometimes get lost in communication between teacher and student. As a student in mechanical engineering with experience in instrument repair, I also have a thorough knowledge of modern flute makers and can advise those seeing to upgrade their instrument. As a teacher, I have helped multiple students prepare for upcoming auditions and improve their performance abilities. I believe that with attention to the right details, you can too.
French

French

I have been speaking French since childhood―in settings both social and academic―and have a C1 level on the CEFR scale. At present, I have personal experience preparing for the AP French Exam, the French SAT Subject Test, and "Le Grand Concours" National French Exam (for which I earned a Gold Award). Having grown up in a multilingual family, I took a deliberate approach to foreign language learning from an early age, including during summers spent with my grandfather, who was an official French interpreter for the United Nations. Thanks to these opportunities, I've become particularly acquainted with the grammatical challenges and idiosyncrasies of learning French—more so than most native speakers. In the past, I worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate French courses at Brown University. In my private lessons, I have helped multiple students of various ages—from middle school student to retiree—in expanding their vocabularies, improving their pronunciation, and more. I take an avid stance that no student should cut corners, but I am also extremely patient in my approach. I believe that with the right strategy, you too can make strides in your French level.
Physics

Physics

I hold an M.A. from Yale and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University. I've spent over a decade helping students succeed in Physics—from introductory coursework through the AP exam. I was also invited to serve as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at Brown to support both Physics and Engineering courses. One of my students started out struggling with momentum and electric circuits. On her next test, she earned a 98%. Another student placed diagnostically in the 3-range for AP Physics C. He went on to score a 5 on exam day. These aren't outliers. Rather, they reflect what consistent, targeted work can do. My approach is to identify exactly where you're stuck, address it directly, and build the kind of understanding that holds up under pressure.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Math from Brown University, and I bring over 7 years of tutoring experience to our lessons. Prealgebra skills have been a key part of my personal success in education and in my career. As a tutor, I have had the opportunity to help multiple beginning algebra students succeed in this essential skill, and I believe that you can too.

I have helped multiple students significantly improve their combined SAT score. In one case, I worked with a student who entered my studio scoring in the 1400-range, struggling especially with translating word problems into the the language of equations. Through strategic sessions together, she was able to raise her score by almost 100 points.
