Hi everyone! I'm Ben. I have a bachelor's degree in history and political science and a master's degree in government and politics. I tutor middle school, high school, college, and graduate students. I teach AP US History and AP US Government. I also review, proofread, and provide prompt feedback on writing in any form.

In addition, I work with professionals looking to improve their writing. If your writing skills are holding you back at work, I can help! If you want to improve the quality of your professional correspondence (emails, memos, reports), I can help (I work regularly with students for whom English is not their first language)!

In graduate school, I studied American politics. In 2013, I began tutoring undergraduates in history and political science. In 2015, I started teaching at the college level. In my capacity as a graduate student, I led weekly discussion sections. I graded and provided feedback for exams, term papers, and other assignments.

For three semesters, I taught US Congress to upperclassmen. I've also taught political theory, pre-law, and introduction to American government courses. As a graduate student, I completed coursework on interest groups and social movements, congressional lobbying, campaign advertising, voter behavior, federal institutions, political theory (both modern and contemporary), and Congress itself.

I love working with students. I thrive in scholastic settings. I find exposure to other perspectives intellectually stimulating. I enjoy formulating and articulating complex ideas. The challenge of reconciling seemingly-divergent viewpoints and disparate traditions is incredibly rewarding.

I worked in DC for a congressperson and a US senator. In that capacity, I represented legislative team members at policy briefings and hearings. I also conducted policy research and composed policy memos for legislative correspondents.

I think you'll find that the breadth of my experience makes me useful in several different capacities. Feel free to reach out at any time!

American History

American History

I help students with history from the beginnings of the American Revolution to the present day. On Wyzant, I’ve worked with middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in American history. In particular, AP US history is one of my areas of expertise. I also work regularly with people of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in learning more about the United States of America. I’m patient, I’m organized, and I firmly believe that there’s no such thing as a dumb question. Asking for help is actually the most difficult part of the learning process — I promise it gets easier from here!
College Counseling

College Counseling

On Wyzant's platform alone, I’ve worked with prospective college, graduate, law school, med school, and vet school students to help them develop their application essays. I assist them with the various aspects of the writing process (i.e., brainstorming ideas, constructing coherent narratives, organizing, strategizing, reviewing, proofreading, polishing language, providing substantive feedback, etc.). I’ve logged about 1350 hours on Wyzant's platform alone--much of which involved working with students to improve their essay writing skills.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

I have a master’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland. I taught US Congress and Intro to American Government at the college level. I spent most of 2020 working on Capitol Hill for a member of the US House of Representatives and a US Senator. On Wyzant, I’ve worked with middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students on US government & politics. In particular, AP US Government is one of my areas of expertise. I also teach people of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in learning more about the federal government/civics/public policy. Amazing and Knowledgable Teacher

Ben has been an amazing college essay help throughout my whole process so far. He is always there to respond to any messages I send, and he even has quick responses to any of my questions. His work ethic is one of the best I have seen so far. He is able to keep up with all of my essays and provide the best feedback and questions to answer and think about to accurately answer what I am missing from my essays. I highly recommend him to anyone who has trouble or any questions with their essays.

An excellent tutor who helped me discover myself.

During my time working with Ben G they helped me work on my transfer application essays. During that process I learned more about myself than I had done in any other moment of my life. They both helped me improve my writing in preparation for university, and discover more of who I am. I am glad to have had them as my tutor.

Ben G. is a fantastic tutor!

I am writing from Arizona. My kid took AP government lectures from Ben G. He is a fantastic tutor. For the first time, my son said he loved the social studies classes. Ben has a great command of the subject and made the class very interesting and easy to remember! His lectures helped him get straight A's, which were much needed. I strongly recommend Ben G. for social studies subjects, especially AP Gov.

Great tutor!

Ben has been a huge help to me this semester. I have met with him weekly to review the information being covered in class, and it has made all the difference. He touches on key points and explains the information thoroughly and in a very understandable way. I could not recommend him more.
